He is re-experiencing that feeling of comeraderie, kinship (homiez and niggaz, if you will, which I won't) and the circumstances that lead to those memories with friends/former friends is in the past (in the way that "Reminding Me of Sef" embraced the memorable side of a mischevious adolescence, which is a song I cannot relate to, but for some reason hold in HIGH regard.)

As painful as it may have been, he had to put these memories aside, bury them in a sense, and focus more on here and now. By not focusing or reliving those memories, he's leaving them open to be forgotten, as is the case with memories....

"mixing....mastered", subtle hints at music. mixing down emotions is synonymous to when you DO a mixdown to a track, you sometimes find that sounds interact in ways less than desirable. snare "a" may sound GREAT alone, but combined with kick "b", hi "c" and sample "d", everything clashes against the big picture, which is the song itself. This song can be compared to life. all of the individual memories and experiences and actions (kicks, hi's and snares) may be great individually... but in comparison to the whole picture, do they fit in constructively with the person's individuality (the sample) to create a well-planned, memorable life (song)?

He is saying that this balance is something he hasn't yet achieved... he's aware of it, though.
