Danish capital, Sweden lose power
COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- The Danish capital Copenhagen ground to halt after a power outage struck the city and parts of neighboring Sweden
The city of 1.8 million people lost electricity on Tuesday afternoon after a main transmission line connecting the two countries broke down, power officials said. Police did not suspect sabotage.
The power cut follows a massive outage in New York that left millions in the dark in August and a smaller one in London that brought the British capital's Tube underground rail system to a halt.
Sture Larsson, technical director of the Swedish National Grid said workers were working to repair the system and that power would return later in the day.
"We are about to reconnect the electricity from the national grid to the local and regional network," he told The Associated Press.
Trains in Copenhagen came to a halt and passengers were evacuated without incident, a Metro spokeswoman told AP.
