well, he makes some very valid points........ you know what? thats part of it. lookslike jean grae is having some real issues these days.

my opinion is slowly changing here. it all boils down to this: she is talented, but so are thousands of other people. the music she makes appeals to a certain audience, so if she wants the masses to hear her and buy her music so bad, then its time to consider an image change.

so when this dude gives her a not-so-heartwarming review, someone like her should appreciate the honesty.

it seemslike there are two camps in hip hop- the underground and mainstream, right? dig a little deeper and you will realize how similar these two are.

the mainstream, when someone dislike their music, reduces it to jealousy- so those who dont dig their product are haters. by comparison, the underground- the "purists", and "real-hip-hop heads"- dismiss critics as "not understanding it" or by saying things like "its just too advanced for them", and label themselves a genuis that is too far ahead of everyone else.

within this there lies a third, more viscious and far less accountable reaction to criticism- the all-powerful "FUCK YOU". plain and simple. if someone speaks negatively about my music, fuck them. right?

serious props for him writing that article. he pretty well summed up my own frustrations and witheld insights to things like this.

and bigd, you are right. you can never please everyone- but more so, you are the one with the problem, not the artist! how does that work? artists just dont know how to suck it up and say "you know, that last record was a flop. i didnt put out a good record. yeah, there were some label issues, marketing and all that, but that has no effect on what i do when i'm in that booth or the beats i choose to do it to. thanks for being real about it, there are so many yes men these days. i'll make it up to all my fans and supporters the next album, promise."

now THAT would be new and interesting, wouldnt it?
