Nu Jerzey devil is dope to me. yeah, his stuff sounds very Dre/Scott Storch influenced but it's still hot in my opinion. here's a interview with Nu
Aftermathmusic.com:
So, how’s everything going with you?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Everythings been real good man. Just been working hard... Trappin! Tryna stay outta trouble.
Aftermathmusic.com:
A lot of people know you as the DJ and Producer of The Game. But who’s the real NuJerzeyDevil? Please introduce yourself to the fans.
Nu Jerzey Devil:
The real Nu Jerzey Devil is infact Game's mixtape DJ & Producer but I'm also a father, I have a little girl who is my heart! She the reason why I trap (grind) so hard.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Can you tell us about your childhood and how and where you grew up?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
My childhood was crazy! I got four olders brothers and they all was bad & doing dirt so I thought it was the right thing to do! If they was hustlin' I was hustlin' if they were robbin' people I was robbin' people feel me? Plus we always lived in da hood which didn't help at all. I was born in New York in da Bronx but we moved to Jersey when I was 4. Then when I was 11 we moved to Vegas and that's when I really started fucking up. That was my 1st time hearing about bloods & crips and bangin' period! But I had to move back to Jersey when I was 14 because of gang violence. Someone shot up my man and my mom found out and sent me back to the east coast.
Aftermathmusic.com:
How did you get into the rap game?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Well I started rappin' when I was 8. I was really into music and I admired the whole rap/hustlin' lifestyle and wanted to be like every rapper on t.v. When I was 18 I traded my .45 handgun for a whole dj setup with a sampler. I use to loop beats and rap over instrumentals. I got tired of doing that so I started makin' my own beats. I bought an MPC 2000 and a yamaha DJX keyboard and that's when I became a producer. So about a year and a half later I was sitting in my so called studio on Florida Ave. (The Devils Den) and I got a 2way message from Rodney "DarkChild" Jerkins. He was like "Yo I heard ya beats & I want to meet with u". I sat there for like 10 minutes before I responded cause I didn't believe it was him. Finally, I responded, met up with him, signed and I was in the rap game!
Aftermathmusic.com:
Why the name NuJerzeyDevil? Did you choose the name or was it given to you?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Game actually gave me that name. We were in the studio recording a song and when we were finish he was like "Nu Jerzey Devil on the track". And from there on everyone started calling me that and it just stuck. Plus I'm from Jersey anyways so it made sense.
Aftermathmusic.com:
You have started your own company "Livelihood Ent.”, what artists and projects can we expect from it?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Well right now we are currently looking for artists' & producers. I've signed my first producers called "Surround Sound" Golden Chyld & Joe Plucker from california. I have yet to find any artist I'm really feelin' but I will. So far we've been just building the foundation for the company & makin' sure its a family type enviroment.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What are your goals for your own Label Livelihood Entertainment?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
My goal for Livelihood is to make it on the same level as a Def Jam or J records. as soon as I get the team I need and the artist I want its over! We will be a heavyweight label in this game. Believe that!
Aftermathmusic.com:
I know you and Heat are working a lot together, what can u tell us about him?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
That's my dogg! Actually Heat was the 1st person to rap over my beats. I've known him since high school and when I found out he was rappin I was like "Yo I make beats" & I only had made two beats in my whole life! He came to my crib and killed both of them. From then we kept working together and now we're here.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Heat has recently signed to Top of the World records how did that come about and do you have any updates on how that album is coming?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Well when I was in Compton he had hit me up and was like "Yo these people are tryna sign me and they're offering all kinds of money, I got full control and I can drop my album asap! So I was like fuck it. I talked to Big Fase Hunned (Game's brother) and he was like o.k lets do it. So he's gonna be the Executive Producer of Heats album. So far we got production from Cool&Dre, Nu Jerzey Devil of course, J.R Rotem and we're puttin' Jeezy, Game, Paulwall & Akon on there also. The album is scheduled to be released Spring of 06' titled "Look no Further".
Aftermathmusic.com:
There are a lot of DJ's around putting out mix-tapes. What would describe your style as a mix-tape DJ?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
What make my mixtape so different is I use my own beats to put rappers on so I know no one else has it. Not to mention I use Game (the number 1 rapper) on everyone I drop. My mixtapes are like real albums.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What equipment are you using at your studio?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
I use the MPC 4000, X8 Phantom & everything else is pretty much live instruments. I hate when I a producer makes a beat with all straight keyboard shit. It sounds watered down. That's why I use live instruments or at least use sounds no 1 would think of using.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you think it’s important for a producer to play instruments?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Definitely! It will increase your creativity and add more flavor to your beats. I forced myself to learn chords on the keyboard. I had so many ideas but I couldn't get them out. But my protegé Golden Chyld is a wiz on the keys so he's been teaching me. But I recommend that you should try to learn how to play all instruments.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What ever happened to the Mix-tape you did with DJ Vlad for Heat?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Well pulled it back because we wanted to drop it after Heat drops a few on his own. This way we can do crazy remixes and blends. Sorta like a best of Heat. Me and Big Mike are droppin' Heats "They don't call me Heat for nothin' Vol.2" soon.
Aftermathmusic.com:
When exactly in September is Life getting out of prison? And do you have any plans for working on mix-tapes with him?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
He should be released in the end of September and when he does we are going to invade the mixtape scene! That dude is a real live freestylist! He's one of those rappers that can freestyle for hours. He is definitely going to be a problem when he gets home.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Has The BlackWallstreet gotten a distribution deal, if so from whom?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
We have a bunch of deals on the table but The Game is patiently waiting for the right one. He doesn't want to just grab any deal, he wants the best one.
Aftermathmusic.com:
How’s the MOB project coming along?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
The Mob is coming along great. I've put them on my last two mixtapes and have gotten great responses on them. We will be starting on there album real soon.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Are you going to be producing for G-Malone's the Beach Cruiser album?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
No doubt! G Malone is a legend in the making homie. That dude is a complete artist. He knows how to pick the right beats and how to create a real song. Plus he got a lot of support from those California streets. He's definitely one to look out for.
Aftermathmusic.com:
When can we expect the next ‘Tha Sounds from tha Devil’ mix-tape?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
I think I'll drop that early next year only because I got a lot of retail shit that I'm doing and I don't want to release any beats that are not out yet. But believe me, that cd is gonna be a rappers treasure!
Aftermathmusic.com:
Will you be producing for any other major albums coming up, that’s not affiliated with the Shady/Aftermath family?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Yea, I'm getting a lot of calls but I really want to focus on our artists' first. Its sorta like building the right foundation for myself. Once I lay down the blueprint then I will venture out.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What projects are you currently working on?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
I've just completed the score for "Beef 3" which will come out in November, I'm working on my compilation album called "Ryde Wit The Devil" I'm doing some scoring on a movie called "Prison Ball" I'm working on Heats new album titled "Look no Further", I'm doing the soundtrack for a movie called "Waist Deep" and I'm also scoring The Game's new movie called "The Millionaires Boyz Club".
Aftermathmusic.com:
Have you had a chance to work with Bishop Lamont?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Nah not yet, we spoke about it but I haven't got around to it yet. But he's an amazing writer and I'm looking foward to it. I believe we can make a classic together.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What can you tell us about Game's second LP? Will it still be on Aftermath?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
As far as I know yes, but its coming along very well. We really haven't started on it yet but the few tracks we've got so far are incredible. I have no doubt in my mind that this album will either match or surpass his first album as far as the music goes.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Have you contributed any tracks for upcoming Aftermath releases, including The Game’s sophomore album?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Yes, I have done a track with one of my producers Mugsy Brown for Busta Rhymes new album titled "The Big Bang" and I'm going to have a few on The Game's new album aswell.
Aftermathmusic.com:
How many tracks have you produced for Game's next album?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
Right now its unkown because we're going to continue to work until we meet the deadline. But it'll probably be around 3 or 4 at the least.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Have you or will you have the opportunity to work with Dr. Dre and Eminem personally?
Nu Jerzey Devil:
I haven't been in the studio with Em but I've been in the studio with Dre numerous times and just watching him work taught me a lot. He has opened my mind up to a whole other side of producing. My mind was really stuck on just rap but he should me how to incorperate my style into r&b and pop. He has really mastered this music game.
