I use it but I set it to like 32nd notes so I can get the swing(sort of) while keeping on beat.......I'll have to try it with it off to see what it sounds like, to see if I get the true swing I have been looking for.....

Thanks

I've never used quantize neither. I got the mpc 1000 and havent gotten to deep into it, to know if it even has that feature. But all my programing has been legit up to now. I guess i just got use to it that way.

I never use quantize for my basslines or my keys, unless I'm looking for that tight vibe. I like my basslines to be loose and swing.

I love for my drums to have that "in the pocket" kind of neatness. It give the song strong glue and make composing basslines easier.

Check out "One Wish" by Ray J ..... listen for the kick. Off, right?

Some times it sounds nice. U can always fix the audio to be in time using beat detective within protools. Try using a Groove template when quantizing to get a more lively feel

As a habit, i always leave the quantize off....then afterwards, i asses weather or not to lock shit perfectly in place....theres usually one ore two little misshaps that ill have to go back and tweak, but alota the time its straight the way it sounds.....its just a matter of practicing rhythm to make shit sound good. I love late snares and shit like that tho, so when you use quantize off the bat you cant get that with it engaged, so i tend to leave it off for reasons like that.

I quantize only when necessary. Although most of my drum line gets quantized, unless it doesn't sound right. When I play on top of it, I like it to be loose. I suggest to have at least ONE thing quantized, to keep it somewhat tight. Anything else you layer on top that is not quantized will sound much better. You feel more of a push-pull feel, like between a drummer and a guitarist.
