I don't really see much difference between rock & rap except maybe the drums. The drums in most rock songs arern't sampled drums like we use. BUT, that don't mean anything. Just sample some hard rock drums (or use some good solid hard hittin' hip hop drums) and go from there. I suggest listening to groups like Metalica, 311, Linkin Park, RUN-DMC. Check how they flipped the rap-rock sound. Check out my track called: "Hardrocks". I sampled some Yes and freaked the mess outta' one of their songs (w/guitars), sampled some hard drums and dropped some violins in there. Check it out and see what you think. Maybe it can help you in some way.

Rock's based on 16beat rhytmn, hiphop is based on breaks. I aint saying it's never been done or should've been done but I think these are basic principles.

Swing is some what different between them. Rock beats often lack any swing, most Hip hop rhythms swing more, but that is because soul and jazz are sampled alot. But hip hop is amorphous so sometimes they're similar, other times not. Imagine the difference between 99 Problems and Sucka Nigga.

Hi man.. It has nothing to do with bars man. I have made beats in 6bar and in timechange 6bar 8bar and they are still hip hop.
If you'd like to check em out they are on my site www.andreasbeats.com

So, what makes rock, and what makes Hip Hop. Well, attitude and feel. And in some cases sound.

So, my tips for making something rock. Use real drumsounds. Alot of cymbals and rides and a hard snare. Use only real sounds. And by that I mean Violins, Piano guitars etc. Don't use synthezised sounds.
Use guitars and be hard on the point with your production. No lazy laydback stuff, and have the tempo atleast 96 bpm or over a 100 I'd reckon would help you on your way.

Peace. Post it when done man so I can take a listen
