Ha! the usual get your attention topic... But what if it were true? Lately I've been on the observation end of illmuzik and I've got a question and comment for everyone.

My question is why even make a statement like... "OMG! Maschine is sooo awesome, it freakin rocks!" when nothing good can come from that? It was understandable when it first hit the market, the buzz, the hype, the reviews! But check this out... if you search back when Maschine or the MV or Beat Thang first launched...they were ALL the next "best thing" (in someones mind anyway)! People were going bananas when the first version came out yet if NI took back all of its updates, you guys would be pissed off and wouldnt want it anymore. But why? 2 or 3 years ago you were screaming the same thing that you're screaming now. My point is...there's no denying how much it's improved, there's no denying NI's commitment, there's no denying that Maschine is the "GOTO" production tool for most producers. The MV for some, Beat Thang for others... BUT, at this point...justifying how dope a piece of gear is or even the great "Reason vs FL vs whatever..." battle is getting pretty wack.

Giving helpful tips, tutorials, advice is all good and always will be but random outburst of "This is the ish" is getting lame for sure. Personally I think it would be a dope move to get pass "what the best is" and start showing up in the comps, the showcase, the sample flips, even the boards for that matter. I dont know about you guys, but me..."OK I get it..." Now, lets HEAR how well it applies to making beats! Let's get active on other things pertaining to music like making it, giving your peers reviews, sharing info and so on! Fuk whats best, lets get back to the tracks!

Good thread Dac. The thing is ... most of the community is gone. There are about 15 active members on the forums and the only way to keep ILL alive is to recruit new people.

That being said, if you're among the 15 or so: yes you can definitely contribute in other ways than those "Maschine is great" type threads. In its heyday ILL was all about collaboration , in recent times .... not so much.

Actually if they never EVER updated Maschine I would love it. and still use it.

But dude they put out two new products, that is kinda big news.

and for the record, I was NEVER thrilled about the MV. Even though it is very powerful.

Im sure that you'd be one of the very few that would still love Maschine...but you seemed to have missed my whole point...it's not about Maschine or the MV or Beat Thang...its about getting away from useless comments like "they put out two new products" woopie doo! If nobody has them yet then whats our conversation going to be about? Oh wait! we can talk about how unthrilled you are about the MV? That would make a great thread! You should start it! C'mon wake up, that ish is old...lets move on. <<<thats my point! Get it?

@Ex - yes I agree. I really don't want to get into that in this thread but you are right and I think that alot of old members still visit but just don't sign in. If we want people to get involved, we have to get back to interesting topics and convo's, we've got to create an environment thats comfortable and enjoying for everybody. A great place to start would be not making everybody feel inadequate if they don't own Maschine, Beat Thang or an MV. Wouldnt be cool if someone with a MPD-32 had some say so?

Aight I own Maschine and MPD32 still use the two also. And much as I would love to disagree with Dac I cant lol. Nah but you do make a great point. The this software vs that software discussions are past wack among other topics that we spend more time on rather than spending time participating in what Illmuzik has to offer. Speaking for myself I will become more active in the comps and showcases.

ACTUALY!!!!!

I eat those topics for breakfast...noone is talking specs, just hype and blah. I doubt anyone can fetch a topic where is simply state that ish "is better" regardless. So just this once, let's blow hypes the fuck up and ima be a douche about it.

The whole "reason vs FL" stereotype criteria is;

- FL doesnt sound that good

Aight, you're a numbskull!;

A. - for using linear mixer interpolation (resampling).
B. - for not rendering with the biggest sync depth (512).
C. - for not using automatic(or even manual) plugin delay compensation.
D. - for using native vsti and stock samples (duh they suck...)
E. - for simply not knowing a damn thing but needed to voice your opinion.

What sounds worse ?

Reason driving avid 192's on ATC's ? or FL on forssel mdac2's with K&H o410's?

- The name is gay

You're whole attitude is gay, i'm not likely to take ANYONE serious that starts judging on a fuckin name. Face it, most times ive heard this is on a "producer forum" where the difference between being serious and being an asshole is quickly misunderstood because the dude's trolling OFF TOPIC.
These bitches in irl call you arrogant when you walk away laughing and calling them a noob but seriously, fashion has never been part of my gearfetish for the last 20 years or so.

----

Right, the truth is, Reason is simple and FL is not (shoot me later). And i dont mean in a way that there are always infinite possibilities how one could make music. Thats a FACT, regardless of what or how you use it, options are infinite....so...

Why bother about Maschine ? you could use Renoise too ? You can go to midibox.org and make you're own stepsequencer and hook it up to some software a 5 year old could understand or you hook it up to max/msp and start frying your brains. At the end of the day ...yawns

I just, obviously, made that up but that's the typical "i dont have an opinion/this shit is the ish" response, downright thread killer to me.

Like the topic "FL vs Reason" its a fact that there's no such thing as infinite possibilities and only noobs put out such statements. From a reason user's perspective its evident that most dont bother about the limitations of Reason because they havent even thought that far ahead or dont grasp the differences at all.
Face it, reason is a no brainer and if you dont have preferences then you're fucking settled. Call me arrogant but i have preferences, and by preference i like those to be optional to at least know that its less likely to burden my workflow for whatever situation. I just call it "being flexible" like being able to have a daw that doesnt consist of something like Reason rewired to yet another audio platform so you can use waves L2 max or track shit (yes im aware of Record). I dont think im kicking anyones teeth in when saying that Reason is made for the non-techie user (singer/songwriter) these days. I cant imagine being truly noob and gazing at Cubase, Logic or PT while going mad over the jargon. That must be the most demotivating thing ever but if its just beatmaking or singer/songwriter stuff, awesome. You provide jobs for the mixing engineers to make crap sound audible to the masses lol.

That being said and from working with Reason up to 2.5, Reason ITB in a great room with the proper da and referencing is just as convincing as any other software. But i have yet to see someone actualy do that with just Reason..yes, you reason users...about 90% are bedroom techie :)

MPC Hypes!

The biggest misplaced pro i hear "its such a good sampler".
No its not... There's one good one, the mp4k @ 24/96 and there's the MPC60 and MPC3k but that not "good", they have characterics that may appeal to some. The MPC2kxl, 500, 1k, 2,5k and 5K are NOT good samplers and the fx dont even come close to those found on a S1100. There are some really good samplers on the (vintage) market that make any of the new mpc's just sound straight out flat.

The mpc is best percussive sequencer ever made because its so intuitive to work with, i always compare it to a cassette recorder, "just press rec".

JJ OS is nice, but come on...you really need grid/step sequencing ? lol Get an ol' TR-xxx and use that as a step sequencer.

---

Seriously, Give me more hypes to crush!

and about "This shits the ish" is what ive been looking at for about 15 years now. Honestly, i think 80% of the crowd doesnt even know what theyre buying, people have it "i suppose it must be good". I'm not rich so i really looked into what i bought and aside from the MPC and a S950 its not so darn typical hippedy hop because there's just no such thing. You dont have preferences, you buy what dre uses, or timbo or 9th or ...
You live that fetish, you'll make your own preferences, you digg it up, read about it, spent hours on a machine before buying it.

Shit i laughed at this hiphop producer with the usual bread and butter stock who added an MKS80+programmer and he was reppin this 19" to the fullest with dumb ass sweep while fiddling on the "ADSR"! I know its a good machine to start but its the profound street credibility he adds to it because he uses it that makes him all the more noob. I never quite levelled with these kind of producers because even with the right tools, they just dont know what theyre saying except bling!

(yes, i want an mks80+prgmmr, no, not jealous)

Last but not LEAST!

Dont burry the h/w vs s/w topic, i know this isnt gearsluts or a forum where a lot of high-end stuff is dropped on the discussion table but at least there are SOME people here that do know what they saying/doing and have relevant experience to make a topic actualy worth reading through. Its exactly this topic that could make a bedroom-techie a pro. Though im a hardware head, some convulation based plugs right now are making me go ITB which leaves you with a good computer and the best AD/DA you can afford. For the likes that rather spend a fortune on bread and butter synths such topics could actualy be good for setting a budget.

anyway, several 2cts there

Dude I agree with what you say about 99%

But I would say this

Reason is simple and FL is not

You have not spent time programming or making patches in Reason. Reason is easy to use, sure. I believe that is simply good design. But it is VERY VERY deep, when you want it to be. I would even go so far as to say not limited at all these days.

also

But i have yet to see someone actualy do that with just Reason

Listen to anything by Flying Lotus, dude even mix's in Reason. The new Bomb squad album was done all in Reason, the first owl city album was all done in Reason.

Honestly I am not trying to start a fight but I always viewed FL in the way you view Reason. Mostly bedroom producers that don't even leave the stock sounds.

But I love FL and in the right hands its amazing.

As far as the MPC stuff, I totally agree. BUT the 5k is just fine as a sampler.

hardware and software wars only care to us... im so passionate about showin people how i created my beats that i find myself explainin to people who just dont give a fuck about it... regular people could care less if u made it on the most expensive machine on the planet, or the cheapest... as long as its a song they like, thats all that matters... a good example is Jay Z/Kanye's "Niggas in Paris"... regardless of what equipment setup u have, im pretty sure EVERYONE on this forum can pretty much create that same exact beat... yea, u might drive a Bentley, Maybach or a Mercedes... but u know what? Lexus, Acura and Cadillac are pretty dam good too.. thats why i dont get into it anymore... most, if not all sample, sequence, has internal sounds, and built in effects... so, now ur beefin about price... its pointless to argue now.

This whole thread is pointless...we all know what gear eachother has and why we like using it aaaaaaand asking people to be active on a forum doesnt work...

Guys, enjoy Ill for what it is, a tight community of (mostly) like minded creators...stop crying about what it would, should, and could be.

The future of Ill is the present...

Forums were the original social networks...now social networks have evolved and continue to exponetially ( no spell check on phone lol ) into new feature packed monsters of their own...

So lets turn this thread into something positive and useful.

Whats the collective goal of the community?

What are our individual goals?

Is there a way to mesh the two into a more productive (dont know if thats the right word) site/ system?

You guys can answer these questions and add on...be productive

Bitching is for bitches....regaurdless of "rights" lol
