luda is very lyrical when he wants to be, listen to "hip-hop quotable" or "made u look" remix. he just knows how to adapt and make radio songs because he used to work at a radio station. and when u makin radio songs sometimes u have to sacrafice the lyrics and concentrate on flow and catchiness

I never thought about that ("when u makin radio songs sometimes u have to sacrafice the lyrics and concentrate on flow and catchiness"). Thats right. I went in reverse of Guevara. I used to like Luda but he started gettin fake. But that line i quoted changed my view le.

But Truth Told, you didn't live up to your name on that post you put. Either you never listened to Dre, Snoop, and Warren. Or your a def judge. I agree that Snoop is losing his touch right about now, but i bet thats because he stopped smokin weed. And Warren G, he was good back then. But DRE?! Dre's the greatest. Mainstream or not.

well for starters i used to be one of those pure west coast guys- dickies and ben davis all day, nike cortez to finish it off..... snoop, dre, cypress hill, warren g, tupac, dj quick, ......... those are staples out here. thats pretty much all i listened to until i was around 16 or so and i started listening to wu tang and redman as well......

dr dre is far from the greatest rapper man.... to each his own, but to call him a real rapper is just that: hes a rapper, not an mc, not a lyricist and to tell the truth rappers and lyricists are two different things....

dr dre, snoop and warren g are all weak mc's, weak lyricists, but they are somewhat like the guys from the south: the make joints for their area, that they and their peoples relate to- thats a different thing to judge than actual skills.... is dr dre one of the greats? absolutely. does snoop fit into that category? i guess..... but dre's impact has more to do with getting the most out of an artist, putting together albums that cross over and still keepin em gangsta, and making stras out of good artists. he is a great producer, as far as overseeing the overall album and i dont even know what beats he actually makes or supervises these days...... but you ever see dre hod down an entire album without a whole slew of guests? thats his strong point- not rapping. i was arguing his rapping skills....

warren g dropped a very timely album that was a classic in my book, but what has he done since? three coasters for setting drinks on at 15 bucks each.... a real bargain. and even though he had a classic album (to me.... actually timeless is the better term..), that doesnt mean he i s a skilled mc or lyricist...... he is far below average.

snoop sells because he is snoop. lines like "poppin our collars/gettin them dollars".... thats real rapping alright. at least it rhymes. he hasnt been any good since doggystyle, and that was just raw, one of the greatest and most memorable albums to ever come out the left..... and then......? again it was a timely album that was relevant to his people, his area, california life- which was what sold at the time.

if you want real rappers, they are your guys i guess. throw mack ten on there along with dub c and the whoridas and comrads and while your at it throw in the kottonmoth kings and insane clown posse..... they do the same things and rap the same way. i am not a deaf judge just because these guys are more reminiscent of mother goose after a year in the 'hood then actual mc's.

'I was just wondering what yall thought the next big production trend will be. Right now it seems like sped up soul samples and vocals are big. Also, that middle eastern type of music is getting popular, so whats next?'

i don't know what the next trend will be, but I think this is the recipe:
step1.stop listening to the radio.
step2.use a technique/rythym/flow/sample/flavor no one else uses....
step3.make sure it sounds sick
step4.listen to the radio again to make sure no one does it already.

...it sounds so easy.....

someone said it earlier it is sad that cats want to follow trends, fugg that be a trendsetter or flip an old style into something new, I mean I get sick of going to a studio and when you say let me hear some of your tracks they have flipped the same vinyl sample the same way maybe a different sample into some kind of Kanye type of track, that is not being creative....yes you are able to successfully emulate what someone else did hurrah for that LOL and they sit around and call it hot.....The first person changing a style unless you got all of the underground locked into your style is unfortunately an A&R.....so think like this....they have already heard soul samples to the point where they don't want to hear anymore.........they have already heard and placed stamps on projects that have beats that will become tomorrows sound or hot chart topper....that's where you have to use your own creativity to cut against the grain with what you work with to make a sound that an A&R has not heard and make it hot enuff for them to say that will work on this new project.....not to say don't do that but everyone is doing it so if they had a roomful of producers all with soul sample tracks what do you think??? yeah they might take the hottest one but they look for something new and fresh....

the next trend is not gona come from a single producer but a hungry young artist that feels what a new producer has to off.......It happens all the time....no producer alone can make a trend....there is only 2 choices new hungry artist and new producers with a new sound. or 1 or 2 albums from being name a fall off artist and a young producer with a new sound. The key here is to get someone to believe in what you have to offer.
