I been workin with FL for a little over a year now and I've been able to create a lot of tight beats on there, but now I feel its time to take it to the next level and get a better program. I was at my this niggaz crib the other day and he had a nice little set up. He's got some hardware and a lot software like reason, cubase, FL and a lot more shit. Now he played some of his joints and they were aight, but i expected a lot more. Then i played him some of tracks that i had on a cd and he couldnt believe that i jus had fruity loops. Now what Im gettin at is do you think its worth it for me to a better software program like cubase or reason? and if so, which of these is a better program? let me know what yall think

if you're doing great stuff with fruity, there's really no reason to change. unless you feel like you're limited by the software,or you can do what you do easier in another program, stick with what you're doing.

dont change softwares, but it might be worth it to go play on an mpc or something see if you feelin hardware more....

chi city, ive been messing wit fl for some years now and its a great program man, u can do basically nething with it - but once i copped a midi controller i started experiencing wit reason and fl thru rewire - then gradually i moved to just reason - i love it and pretty much stopped using fl - i think maybe u should get the demo and see how u like it or something and then if u decide to convert then go ahead - but there's nothing wrong with fruity

yea good advice, but the thing is feel limited when creating my basslines. I think that the bass is a major part of any beat and i have to it perfect. Is reason or cubase any better for basslines?

chi download a vst with some bass samples.......somebody told me to get one named novation bass station - it was pretty good - its a couple straight basses in the simsynth - u can tweak the 3xosc and get one too

yeah, id stick with it if ya making good enough stuff, unless u feel its holding u back and not letting ya progress...

First off all u need to realise that software/hardware dosent make the producer their talent does.

Some of the best producers on this site(producer gyal &guevera) use FL and u would never even know. I know other cats with STACKS of synth racks and hardware modules that doent even get close.

WIth that being said i would give reason a try and see how u feel about it. I have heard it is alot more flexablie. One thing u definatly need to get is that midi controller. I just copped that m-audio keystation 88es and i have n othing but good things to say about it

Quite frankly, you could have the shitiest software and make the hottest beats and vice versa. You fill in the blanks.

Cubase and Reason are 2 totally different animals... you CAN arrange a beat in Cubase, but it's more for mixing, Reason is for purely beat making... I copped Cubase and a MPC and haven't used Fruity since..but I think you can make some decent basslines in Fruity, you just have to learn how to program/ play them...

If you make good beats with FL then stick too it by all means. 9th Wonder made the Black album using FL to make that "Threats" beat, so that should tell you enough. It's not what you have, Its how you use it and if you get to the point where you know that program in and out, you cannot go wrong. Always keep your options open if your willing to explore just think of it as another peice of equipment that you know how to use.
