Hey,

HomeStudio is freezing up?

1. Have you installed the latest version?
2. Have you uninstalled/reinstalled HomeStudio?

Take care,

Nick

Hmmm... that's a tough one. It's hard to tell since it's not too clear what's happening. Can you play/record in Homestudio regularly, without all this stuff hooked up?

yes it's the latest version and yes i have reinstalled it.

i havent tried rec/play with everything unplugged. truth is i just got to the point where i was able to listen to something come from the program(actually hearing one of the tutorials play)

this has become a very difficult challenge in trying to set this all up.

but what will happen is i'll try to sync my mpc to homestudio using MTC. the program shows that it's receiving a MTC signal. so after sync'n those up (at leat i thought i was anyway), i'll try to play one of the tutorials in home studio and all of sudden everything would freeze up, playing just one note (like a recording skipping but several times faster) and the only way i can get it to stop is to shut down the whole program.

aiight dawg

i'ma try a different approach
instead of midi i'ma try audio this time

still the same equipment:
akai mpc 2000xl
emu mp7

but instead of the audiophile i'm using:

roland vm3100 pro mixer that via scisi goes straight into its rpc pci card now how should i set up. it's should be pretty easy now. but for some reason i'm still not able to hear any sound. any suggestions?

Hmmm. Did you try just hooking up your mixer to the soundcard with just audio cables? Forget all the MIDI and SCSI for now, try strictly audio and let us know.

the easiest way to do this is not use MTC....we've had that debate b4 but I am willing to bet if you just use the good ol fashioned midi clock, and make sure that the hardware devices are all routed correctly on the midi bus and then make the software the master clock........I have had just about every midi chain configuration you could think of and recorded into pro audio 9 and sonar....the only thing is that I am not too familiar with home studio I got that free once with a controller and never used it......I don't want to get into the debate about which is better like what might happen on here...LOL I already had it out....I always find using mtc a bitch when you have a lot of devices on the midi chain and sometimes even 1.....I never had sync problems using the midi clock ....EVER...LOL........I have actually seen the rs7000 freeze up when using mtc for no apparent reason.....but you can try it to see if you can get it working and continue with the headaches...

I actually had this sort of problem years ago now that I think about it. I was trying to synch up my drum machine to Pro Audio 8 with MTC and it locked. I ended up just using regular MIDI and it was fine. Did you try doing just that? Setting up master/slave?

yes.. here's all that i'm tryin to do in a nutshell

what i'm tryin to do is real basic

i have the akai mpc 2000xl that i want to use just for samples (records, etc.)
i have the mp7 that i use mainly for the sounds and drums

i have homestudio 2004 to mix both samples, sounds and drums from my mp7 and mpc and mix them down to create my songs

that's all i'm wanting to do in a nutshell.

i've tried utilizing the sequencing features of both the mp7 and the mpc but i'm having problems with setting up using midi. so i decided to use homestudio as the sequencer.

i've tried chaining the mp7 and mpc thru midi into my pc via audiophile, but with no success and no sound.
i tried using mtc but not midi clock.

so now i've pulled out my vm3100 pro (which is linked by scisi into a soundcard) and run audio into it. still no success. i'm not sure where exactly i am going wrong, but i definitely need some help. thanks.

Try this......pc midi out to mp7 midi in......mp7 midi thru to mpc midi in...mpc midi thru to pc midi in.....this should complete the loop...you should then test your controller if you are using one on the computer, if you press a key you should be able to at least trigger sounds......then make sure that the mpc and the mp7 have midi or midi clock in selected in the midi configurations.....if you are using the piano roll to trigger these devices I would make sure that I could trigger from there too if you edit on the computer......I would definitely get this to work using midi clock first.....

yeah set the mpc to midi clock in, then run the midi out from the mp7 to the in on the mpc and then run the midi out from the mpc back to the mp7 that creates the loop you just have to decid which one is going to be the master...you need to break out the manual for all the details but that's how to do it....

ok
let's say i set it up like that and i want to use the mp7 as the master (so i can assign samples from the mpc to one of the trigger buttons on the mp7) where would i run my audio out of ? the mp7? or the audiophile?
also, for those who may have the audiophile usb, when i pull up the audiophile control panel, none of the options are enabled. wassup wit that there?

would i be able to plug the audio outs of both mpc and mp7 into the audio ins of a mixer then plug the outputs of the mixer into audiophile. i think if i just do audio it will be easier for me right now, since i'll only using the mpc for samples (sampling albums and cds and editing) and use my mp7 for drums and sounds and use home studio to record, mix, sequence and burn. is that a possiblity?
