LMAO! in other words, if you want to record a "live" concert standing in front of a cluster of 18" cerwin vegas, you better have a dynamic mic...hahaha too funny!

The mix on this could use alot more clarity you are going to need a better mic no doubt, you have gotten lots of good advice on options as far as what to get.
To me it sounds like your recording with the fx ON, your going to want to record dry and then add fx later.
That sounds almost like a spring reverb on the vocals and if used right you can get a cool retro feel to a mix using it, but this whole mix has it on it and thats no where near studio quality.
You can achive it though ..with a little investment..beware lol this is an EXPENSIVE hobby as I think everyone here can atest to.
Looking forward to hear how your mixing changes .
Im betting if you hang around here and take folks advice you will look back on this mix in the future and wonder what you were trying to do lol.
Oh and welcome to illmuzik.
Also we dont need to understand whats being said in the lyrics to help you get the sound right.

Thats whatsup your heading the right direction then.
The other thing that I would say is a little more pricey ish and I think the guys overlooked it, you are going to need some monitors at some point, headphone mixes dont translate too well.
You will be able to see this when you burn your song to a cd then put it in the car and suddenly hear that the mix didnt translate well at all.
Although if you keep listening to mixes in the car and keep adjusting it you may learn how to adjust your mix in the head phones so it sounds ok in the car and then hopefully most other places you play it.
it gonna take a little time though no matter the route you take.

Yeah, headphones aren't the best for mixing...but with practice you can get a good mix on some really good headphones. You can get monitors, but sometimes you need a the right room to get a good reference...I would love some, but I'm not set well in my place for monitors, since I'm in a wide open space with all hardwood flooring. Monitors are definitely the way to go, though.

Just noticed...Dude just said "fuck it" went and bought all that shit....Damn I wish I was that impulsive with money.

Thanks guys for the reply

Btw, i checked on other forums & other peoples rating about microphone.

Most said i should go SHURE SM57.

Wanted to ask, i saw on some forums SM57 is more for instrumentals & SM58 is basically for vocals, true ??

Microphone: Which work best with "Oxygen 49 3rd + Mbox mini + pro tools le 8"

* Shure SM57 ??

* Shure SM58 ??

* Samson co1u ??

* Rode Nt1a ??

Cheers & thanks :)

The oxygen will work fine with pro tools, just update your software. You do know that the same company that makes Pro tools also makes that keyboard right.

Also you DO NOT need an ilok for Pro tools to work, but you will need it for other plugins. Now AFAIK Pro tools 9 WILL require an ilok.

Take what everyone says with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to opinions

ProTools, *I* don't like it. Tho, I would not say it sucks at all.

But, even if I did, or if I went on like majority of people that think they know anything about production and say that its the best thing ever to bless the face of the earth with its existence, it would still be my opinion.

TBH, I think just saying something sucks, or something is amazing isn't an opinion worth keeping in mind unless they're a reasons behind their position.

A bit off track there

Anyway, the equipment is fine quality-wise. But good or even best equipment wont equal quality. I say this so you wont go thinking just because you spend all this money you'll have the best sound out there soon as you open the box and get to recording. Quality starts in the real world, good equipment and a great recording environment -- There is indeed more to it, but starting off should focus on that.

Lastly, I wouldn't be surprised if there we're fake Shure Mics, or any big brand mics. I haven't seen such a thing -- I think you'd have to be looking for them to find that. I'm assuming they're actually referring to cheaper alternative mics (I guess would be an ok term). I HAVE seen these, in which they're made by a smaller company that has microphones designed specifically as a direct competitor to the much more popular SM57/58 mics. You can go with these and probably still do fine, butttt even with larger companies you'd want to have some kind of listen before you buy -- in-store or any kind of hands on testing, you just cant get any better than that, then there's audio demos and reviews on youtube or other related sites.

The problem is the smaller companies are also lesser known, so you're less likely to find a video or review on them.

Speaking of mics and smaller companies has anyone seen the MXL LSC-1?

Saskesan - Assuming you havent already purchased everything, what was your budget for a microphone? Also, did you actually have a preference between a dynamic or condenser, or you dont even know yet?....

Anyways, I keep seeing the SM57 pop up a lot and I'll concur thats a great mic to begin with and the nice thing is it'll always come in handy some how in many different recording applications (plus its super affordable)....if your looking for an alternative and your willing spend a bit more though, like the 400-500 range if I remember correctly (assuming your even willing to go that big??), another great dynamic mic worth checking out is the EV RE20....Personally, I like that one much better on vocals but keep in mind thats just my personal preference when it comes to the two.

Hello guys

I'm a student & ive been listening to R&B music & Rap music since some time now. I'm an asian & i sing in Punjabi & English. (punjabi = indian)
I started making music with "Mixcraft" 3 years ago. mixing & singing.
Using a simple pc microphone.

Want to make such music, fan of this guy => YouTube - Imran Khan - Amplifier

I downloaded some instru's and sang on them. But now i really want to advance in this. I still make music using MIXCRAFT on computer.(work well)

I was thinking to buy Samson co1u condenser mic + pop filter. ( for better vocals, as i heard its a good mic )

But is that everything to make the music sound like (done in studio) i worked abit with some other programs: Reason, Cool Edit Pro, Music maker, ect...

Or do i need Digidesign Mbox 2 (for better quality) ??

btw i dont want to be an professional, its my hobby. So i want to make it sound clear & studio like.

I will try to upload some of my songs i made (u wont understand cos of language but please pay attention how it sounds like)

If u guys can guide me, wld be awesome

Thanks in advance

As a beginner I would also go for the Shure SM57, its a very good mic for the money and as a beginner getting value for money is very important. Simply for the fact that it does take a long time getting to grips with audio creation software and to get that studio sound you speak of takes a lot of time and practice to develop an ear for mixing. Thats why you have dedicated mixing and mastering engineers, because its a whole skill of its own. Sometime down the long hard line that is music production you might find that you dont have the passion or patience for it anymore, and it will be less of a kick in the nuts if you havent spent a fortune on hardware and software. Because the time it takes alone to get to a good standard is valuable in itself, as they say time is money. Time spent learning the craft is time that could be spent socialising with friends, establishing a family etc, a music "career" takes a lot of sacrifice, simply because it takes a lot of time. So thats the reason I say spend that money wisely, only get what you need to get and try to get the most out of what you do buy, because one thing I do know for a fact, making music is NOT cheap.
