I dont really want to know your trade mark, because this should be your secret until you are known in the industry. I just wanted to have a few list of celebrity with their trademarks. At least, nobody will say: "Hey your beat is like his or her's" !!! That comment can be sometimes cool, but it can be also disturbing. We all know about tim and neptune.. but there's some cat out there that it kind of hard to notice their trademark...

So here we go:

Neptune = is mouth and some electronic sound.

Timbaland= Drums, snare, flute, bongo

Hitmakers = Speed up a vocal sample and and a kick, snare, hi hat and cymbal crash and what do you have?? The same beat again and again for the diplomats!!!! yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!

Kanye West - that sped up soul samples shit
Timbaland - alot of indian samples, mouth sounds, and bongoes
The Neptunes - live drums and live instruments (or unquantized drums) and synths

Just listen to The Roots' "You Got Me" by Scott Storch, and thats the blueprint for a Cold Truth beat.

yup my style has a father and im not afraid to admit it. my basslines are better though, lol.

but beyond that, you can usually break it down like this:

1. Deep, filtered bass.
2. drums out in front of the mix.
3. full use of the stereo field in every track
4. instrumentation.... usually a piano or rhodes playing the main chord progression. lots of guitars with wah or tremelo effects, lush strings, flutes and synth sounds.
5. miniscule percussion use

See there Truth; that's why I like your beats so much. Everything that you listed is what attracts me to a beat. Deep basses, a solid rhodes, drums in front etc. That is definitely a good formula Bro'. I must have listened to "You Got Me" a hundred times when I first heard it. I don't think I have a style yet. LOL! What you described is the closest thing to what I am TRYING to achieve. LOL! Throw in some ProducerGyal strings and some Classic arrangements and I think that would be a mesmerizin' joint! LOL! Nuff Respect!!

hey man that was the song that got me started with all this. my only regret is that that style of beat was never really heard from again.

not that i'd want him to recreate it a million times, but that was such a beautiful track with a style and approach that was NOTHING like anything before or after in hip hop and it just... i dunno.

anyhow thats where i drew my biggest inspiration from and its still my "formula" to this day. i know "formula" is a bad word, but 95 percent of anyone who has been making beats for a long period of time has one. it just makes us who we are. i think my tracks stand on their own two, as i have carved my own little niche from that blueprint.

you'll get it, just keep at it. you'carve your own niche as well.
