MPC2000XL Yay or Nay?

Mpc2000xl with internal zip, external zip, external memory card reader, zips with drums, and manual, $380usd. Worth it? i have a 1000 already but really want more of a studio workhorse, and am looking to further my 90's boom-bap vibe/sound. Advice would be much appreciated.

I would say no. It's a great machine but you could get much more out of Maschine, which is about $600 usd new. You could get it used as well. I would recommend the Renaissance but that's way more.

Thanks Fade, but i already have a bunch of MIDI devices and really want a standalone Sampler that will get me off of the computer a bit. The maschine does look dope tho, and i would be interested in the renisance or even the studio if you didnt have to have them plugged in and turned on to alter the material you have created with them.

Straight up no, the 1k is so much faster. The 2k will drive you crazy. Personally I am now a 100% software guy and I would NEVER go back!

Agreed. If you really want the MPC 2000 then go for it. It's a great machine for sure, but if you want more for your money I would say go with Maschine or Renaissance. If you just want to bang out beats, kind of like in the old school sense, then MPC 2000 it is!

What can you do on the 2000 that you cant do on the 1000? Besides 8 outs to 6 whats the diff? But if its just to have go get it, im not mad at cha...

MPC2kxl is fine, better pads than the 1k and does the same imo. Internal sampler is alright, but i prefered other samplers and use the mpc just for sequencing.

Well i was planning on buying the MPC today, had the money in my pocket (which i was nervous about because i just lost 200 @ the casino) and the seller texted me that hes backing out of the deal. So it looks like i will be considering the maschine. What is the main difference between it and the mikro version?

I can't speak for the MPC, but for the Maschine you get lots of flexibility and control. Sure, there's software included but take it from me, it's all about the controller. I used just software for a long time but once I got Maschine, making beats became fun again.

I'm sure DP could give you a better answer about the two. Is there something specific you're looking for though?

I first tested the mikro, liked it, and you can do the same, but man, get the big one. Another level, the menu navigation on the mikro was a pain for me in comparising to the big one. I went back to my mpc, but the maschine is a real beast..

did some more research on maschine, and there are some things i do not like about it, and it looks like i will be getting an Akai MPD24 or 32 when i have the funds. As an Ableton user, it makes sense to just stick with lives internal sampler and just streamline how i control it. I am going to be selling my NI Traktor S2 and F1 to fund this and pay some bills. Ahhhhhh being a producer is so expensive, i wish there were grants for people like us...

Whoa! You wan to get an MPD instead of Maschine? I highly do not recommend that. I had the MPD24 and hated it. It was okay at first but I felt so limited. It's a basic controller, and the pads are pretty stiff.

its all about the software, i watched a bunch of videos on the maschine's software was just not feeling it, really all i want to do is trigger chopped samples, which i now do by time stretching in ableton then just dropping them into drum rack. and also the 16 levels feature of the mpd i love, and if i get the mpd i will have enough money left over to get the pad upgrade and get some extra thick pads in the color of my choice.

Really? The Maschine software is really good, very powerful. The main thing I didn't like about the MPD was that it was just a controller to me. There was no software to go along with it and I had to rely on my DAW to do the work. It was not great so I had trouble triggering samples. Maschine is like an all-in-one.

If you just want to trigger samples then the MPD would be fine, but if you're looking to bang away like an MPC I would say no. However, if you wanto customize it then you should be fine.

maybe if i get the chance to really play with one i will be convinced, but as of now it is outside of my budget and doesnt seem absolutely necessary. I really just need pads for my samples, and at the price point the mpc was at, i could have that along with the internal sampling engine, but the mpd works for me, as i do EVERYTHING in ableton as it is, so we'll see.

if its just to trigger samples and youre on a budget, why not get the mini ak or the mini korg pads for a few bucks and call it a day..
