MPC Renaissance & Studio price drop!

Interesting news coming out of Akai: they've dropped the prices on both the Renaissance and Studio.

• MPC Renaissance was $1299, now it's $999
• MPC Studio was $599, now it's $399

Could this be part of the ongoing battle between the MPC and Maschine?

No, not anytime soon. Akai is not built to compete with NI in the sound dept.

I was on my phone so I could not reply in depth, but the only ammo Akai has in this fight is the strength of the MPC name. Now that is a huge asset but no one is in a position to compete against NI from the sound perspective. And that is what they are using in this fight, more synths, more samples. They could do this all day. Maschine+Komplete is an amazing powerhouse that no one can duplicate.

^^ Agreed. I guess that's why a lot of guys like Premier or Pete Rock for example, are shown using the Renaissance. I don't know if they're using it in their studio but if they are it's probably because they're used to the MPC name.
