MPC Necessary?

My original plan was purchasing an MPC with FL Studio, but I got Reason which is a stand alone program itself. Is an MPC necessary or would and MPD TECHNICALLY do the same job? I'm trying to see the advantage/disadvantage of purchasing one, considering I'm more short on money now.

Thanks.

Well it really depends on what you could afford and what you really need.

If your working with fruityloops chances are you either can't afford the big stuff or you just want something simple. And if your working on a pc thats not good on ram then the mpc would take some of the cpu strain off your DAW and would allow you a more grittier sound.

But if you feel you have everything you need right now but think that a midi controller would help make using certain features in your daw easier like pounding out rhythms or realtime editing then just go with the MPD

Personally, since i got my mp2k I've decided I'll do alot of my work in the analog realm for a more different sound.

I'm thinking about getting this one for my FL Studio

Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with this joint?

i have one of those. it's a neat little thing, but theres a slight delay if you use the USB connection. I'm MIDI impaired, so this was my only option. the tenth of a second delay between hitting the pad and the sound playing was enough to fuck me up though, it makes tapping out rhythms really tough

having just switched from these usb pads (mpd and the korg padkontrol) to a real mpc, i can say now without a doubt theres a very big difference. do the usb things get the job done? sure, if u got no latency and a good sequencer, and dont mind the feel. but as far as rock solid timing, sound, and overall sequencer feel goes, the mpc really tops these things.
