i don't really know a lot about software, but i got an mpc, and personally i would not use it for a mid controller, it can be used as one. But there pads instead of keys, i would get a midi keyboard, then you can play it like a piano, an mp is meant to be played as a drum machine. Just a my opinion, but go ahead try it first yourself.

you can use the mpc as a controller jus hook up the midi output of the mpc
2 the midi in that your using with reason... then move the drum part 2 midi select the port you have it out from if you using... midi 1/a.. then select device 1a.. if you select midi out 2/b.. scroll pass 16a till you get 1b...

if you want get a keyboard connect the midi out of that 2 the midi in of the akai...
and now you can have a keyboard and mpc as a controller...

you can even make the mpc sync with reason.. so you can use the features on the akai..
