I have a Fantom-S88 and a VP-9000 processor along with the 4K. I chose the Fantom cause it's easier for me to program the synth engine. I chose the VP-9000 cause it's a sampler on crack. It's not that high on voices but in terms of pitch, time and formant adjustments...OMG, nothing comes closer.

It's not a matter of which fits better, it's really up to the sounds you want. You should try both out and judge for yourself.

Somebody called me ?! hehehe

In any case, I wouldn't look for anything with another workstation/sequencer in it. The mpc4k should do that very nicely indeed.

But, maybe,

I wouldnt get a Triton man, not if you already have an MPC 4k (coz the sounds in Tritons are known to be bad). You dont need all the Triton's features, coz the 4k has them already and they are better. id say Fantom-X or Motif ES.

theres even that new Fantom Xa out now if your on a budget. its a watered down version of the X.

sAfE.

I think you're confusing two different utilities, you can hardly compare a mpc4k with a triton.

A trinity rack with moss board is hella nice, also Proteus 2500 is a beast.

I have a 4k and I use a Radium 49 midi controller. I use the 4 k to trigger reason as my synth sound module. The 4k is like a synth without limits if used properly. It has a Quick FX option to resample audio to create new samples. For example I can take a string sample and make it sound like its underwater or its playing from a far distance. The amount of versitillity that it has is tremendous. You can turn anything audio into a synth patch. You can use external midi sound modules or soft synths or you can get a keyboard synth with a sequencer but its not neccesary to get a keyboard with a sampler in it because it would be kinda redundant.

You want good sounds and keys to play em.. Motif Es is a perfect addition to a 4k. If you already have a midi controlel then Motif rack. You don't need the sequencer from any of the boards the 4k will handle that. All you need is sounds and keys, and if you got keys (midi controler) get a rack module for the sounds. Proteus models, motif rack, triton rack, fantom x rack, all those good ..

There goes that word again, what is the "BEST". Best for what, what are your needs, what can you afford, what do you want, what style of music are you doing (I assume Hip-Hop), but the best is really tough to say. You got an MPC4000 I'm assuming so you really don't need much else.

Everybody and their mother has a Triton. The Fantom yeah it's okay I guess never really heard it's sounds. I have a Motif ES but I can't really suggest you getting that either. Get you a good midi controller like the Pro 88 from MAudio and you can control all your sounds from off the MP. Or even get something even cheaper, it depends on how creative you are I can't really tell you what the best is unless we know what application your using it with and what your goals are.

The Best?? Best thing to do is cop something that nobody else has. Like Architech said, "Everybody and their mother has a Triton." That's why I sold mine. The same goes for the Motif and Fantom now. I have a Motif 7 and hate it now, because 70 % of shit I hear I can tell you what patches are used. My motif has been reduced to a glorified controller. I'll never buy another board because it supposed to be the hottest thing out. Know your style, know your sound and find gear that compliments that. Look on ebay for some old school shit. You can even fuck with some Casio or yamaha portable shit if you tweak it right.

Just My OPINION

You'd be suprised, if you know how to work a triton the sounds are far from bad! Then again if your just a lame and use the thing without the effects and all the Combi's and Programs it is bad... Even though i got a triton i do think in a sense of instrument authneticity the motif is better...
