whats good everyone? i just got into this production game after years of listening to the illest soul and hiphop. after my man dilla died, i was so inspired by everything i learned about him through magazines and online articles, i decided to follow my own dream of becoming a producer. my question is, i have an mpc2000xl and a technic 1200 turntable. i dont know how to sample records onto the mpc. when i connect the turntable into the lower left of the mpc, and i try to sample, all i hear is static. no matter what i try, i just hear some random highpitched hissing noise. does anyone know why? do i need to buy a mixer in order to sample off of my technics 1200? if so what kind? thanks for all the help i appreciate all feedback. one

What's up J,
First, welcome to Illmuzik.

Second, you are exactly right, you need to hook the Technics up to a dj mixer (or a phono preamplifier) before you can sample from it. Buy a cheap dj mixer, plug your turntable into it, and plug the output into your MPC.

dont go too cheap with your mixer though, cuz the super cheap ones sound like crap. then your samples will sound like crap as well. there are plenty of mid range mixers available. if you have problems finding something that fits your needs, just re-post in here. im sure all of us here will help get you started...

Thats a bizarre lookin mixer....
These guys are right your gonna need that mixer, get a decent one..
You can even grab one at Radio Shack, I would get the bigger type from radio shack if your gonna get one from there because you never know how many inputs and outputs your going to need in the future.

i would stray away from radio shack mixers, for real !!!. if your not going to be a dj, as in a scratch dj, you dont need a scratch dj mixer, they are usually pretty basic with smooth faders not too many channels and extras.. if the sole purpose of the mixer is to be used in conjunction with your turntable to sample i would get something that has a bunch of channels, nice eg set-up, maybe even a sampler or efx as well.

heres a few that have many functions:
