NAHH its differnt i have 16 levels also, auto chromatic to get the meaning of AUto chromatic just look at the name

auto- automaticlly
chormatic- the chormatic scale

so it automaticlly maps a sample across the chormatic scale(the black and white keys)

So basically it takes any sounds and maps it accross the keys like a keyboard patch. Making it a vitural instrament

16 levels is differnt, it just takes a sound and pitches it up and down a couple levels on the pads. It dosent do it according to the chormatic scale of a keyboard so when u try and play a 16 leveled patch on a controller, it dosent play like a piano(samples are out of order)

Again autochromatic this is a VERY VERY powerful feature when used correctly, i will go out on a limb and say it is probolly THE most powerful feature of the XL..... Most people dont understand it casue they have never used it...

And yea the new OS dosent have that on the 1000 nor does the 2500 have it. Only the XL and 4000 have it...

ahh thanks for the information, veddy veddy interesting

You guys have all been a help to me on this one. Last question without any heat (INJN) do you guys think the 1000 and 2500 will incorperate this feature? Maybe we should go to the Akai site put in comments about it. I can't see them coming out with any different versions of the mpc for a long time but what do I know. God Bless you my illmuzik brothers.

Think about this??? you have to figure that their research and development must have some clue about the best features.....even though that feature is dope they probably took some poll on how many times people use it from not just the home users but probably in fully professional application in a studio and production on records....its a hot feature but more people probably use the tried and true 16 levels...thats something thats been in some shape or form all the way back to the emu family....that was tuning at its best though on the sp1200...but to me they been real slow with major OS changes outside of bug fixes so hold your breathe....I actually wanted to kick myself in the ass because I could not wait for the OS upgrade any longer on the 1000 and I sold it 1 week before they released it so now I am just trying to decide whether I will get the 2500 or a 4000....

I'm just guessing, of course, but I dont think they'll ad it to the 1000... thing is, it IS the cheapest of the whole line of MPCs... And they already know it's a usefull feature, so if they wanted to put it in there, they already would have....

then again, that's just a guess...
