Midi Setup

ill o.g.
Somebody who works good with MIDI please help me out.

I got a friend in a band who does house/trance and he knows i make beats and all that so once in a while he'll come down with a triton or a microkorg or one of the new keys he got or borrowed and let me play some riffs that i can add into beats. That was when i made beats on the computer. Now that im doin shit with hardware (EPS16+ mostly) i cant just play riffs then correct the timing after, i have to play it on-point.

My Question:
I want to have it set up through midi so that i can start recording on my sequencer "tick, tock, tock, tock) then play my riff into my sequencer, then it will loop the riff that was just recorded in. But i dont have NO FUCKIN CLUE on how you do this through MIDI. Please help me out. And if you dont understand what i just said, let me know and ill try to re-phrase it.

THANKS
PEACE

helix,

I was having the same issue a while ago so I can tell you what I did with the hardware that I have. Im using a mpc1k and roland xp-30 keyboard. I wanted to be able to play my keyboard but use the mpc as a sequencer and controller. To do this I have two midi cables one from midi out on the keyboard to midi in on the mpc, and another going from midi out of the mpc to midi in on the keyboard. I had to set the mpc up to except midi which was easy from just looking in the manual, but the roland was hard. On the roland you look for midi performance and set the local to off, set remote to off, and set the midi channel to of or 17, just make sure that its off. From that hook up I can play my mpc and use the roland as a sound module or I can play the keys on the keybord and the mpc will do the recording and sequencing. One thing to take note of is that when playing the keys the sound is still coming out of the keyboard not the mpc. But the sounds of the keyboard do come out when actually playing the pads on the mpc. I sure whatever hardware you have its the same setup you just have to find out how to get to those options on your friends keyboards. I hope I helped some so youll know what questions to ask and a little more understanding.
