I think Profilik refers to the actual MicroKorg, and not the Korg MicroControl.

MicroKorg is a synth the size of the MicroControl with a mic attached (vocoder). I think is has 128 polyfonic voices. I tried it at my local store, the sounds are few but some really good ones inbetween (mostly bass synth and synth). Of course there are many keyboards that have much more sounds etc, but the MicroKorg is also much cheaper (here it's approx. $580, and US price is usually around 50% of our prices). Only disadvantage is that the keys are the size of your little finger.

I haven't played with it, but i wouldn't mind having one.

I've read it's the neptunes' "secret weapon"!?? They have a small demo of it on the korg website, it sounds very nice especially for its price tage.

Like Copenhagen said, the only thing that lets it down are those mini keys

I was readon the spcs on Korgs website and it says that you can use the microkorg as a midi controller....does this mean I will be able to play all of the sounds I have in reason on that keyboard, and I can get rid of the smaller oxygen8??

Did you rock the vocoder for half an hour, annoying everybody else in the store, like me? ;)

Haha yeah but luckily everyone in there is messing with all the other keyboards and drum machines so nobody gets pissed...but I could sit in there and play with that stuff all day haha

I played with that in the store but its too loud like pro said. I loved the sounds on it too. I think its crazy. I couldnt find one sound that sounded like a real instrument. One key sounded like some guitar but that was it.

If anybody has Busta Rhyme's album "Genesis", listen close to that. A lot of the track sound like they used the MicroKorg. I know they didn't cuz the micro wasnt out yet. But you could make a pretty close version of some of them tracks with that.

The microKorg has the same sound engine as the MS2000 (i think)

Thats where some of the sounds may have come from

I want a synth that can create some jazzy sounding bass, like the Tribe used to do a lot.
Also I'd like some reggae like bass sounds as well.
I know a lot of synths can create this, but I'm on a budget and I don't know if the MicroKorg can give me that OOMPH, you know??
I already own Trilogy and ít's great, but I wan't some hardware and I wan't to be able to take it with me
I never had a hardware synth and I hear a lot about analogue warmth and stuff like that, so I basically do not know what I am talking about:)

I may be completely wrong on this but I proper reggae music, (not dancehall) was made using a live band and live instruments.

To recreate a reggae bass sounds your best bet would either to be - buy a bass guitar or get some classic bass multi-samples and load them up into your sampler. The last few issues of computer music have given some real nice bass multi-samples.

As for analogue sounds, most synths nowadays ain't analogue. Most of them have sounds that have been modelled on analogue synths. People claim to know the difference between the sounds but i personally DO NOT.

Your best bet would be to try out some synths in a shop, then you'll know which ones have the right sounds for you :)

Hope this helps

L8er!
