Melody v.s. Beat

Usually the melody something real simple and build up. But sometimes i just wanna bang out some drums so i work on all da percussion and vibe with it for a few. Then while listening to it i start getting a feel for what instruments i wanna use/need.

any track thats realy gonna stand out and stick in your head is gonna need a good melody (even if its just sub bass) but that doesnt mean it has to come first. if im composing i start with drums or bass to keep it knockin and build the melody or the hook later. if you have a decent sample its already taken care of
