Melody Problems..

Im just starting off in FL Studio, and i got a nice drum n snare pattern down, but i just can come up with a nice repeative melody, can someone please gimme a tip on how to come up with one, or whats some nice sounds to use.. im stuck.

Do you have a MIDI controller or keyboard? If you do then just mess with the keys until you find something that sounds nice. Play around with some chords http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm or single notes. Try and find a basic melody and then just build around it. Hope that helps.

ya i got a virtual midi keyboard, i gotta wait till after xmas to buy my actual one, because my kids need xmas, ya dig.

but im using Bombe/Midiyokes Virtual Midi Keyboard.

You could also try and randomize! It just gives you something which you can toy around with when you find something you like. It can also help give you an idea for a new melody.

first of all..

GET RID OF THAT VIRTUAL KEYBOARD.

you dont need it.

FL allows you to use your typing keys as midi keys. Just press ctrl+T (i think thats the shortcut..havent used fl in so long).

After that just find the root note u want the tone of your song to be in. i suggest using a piano and make a simple melody after playing around a bit. then add other instruments around those notes and tadaaa ur on the rode to finishin a nice beat.
