most stuff is spported by both formats....the only real differences are fruityloops is only for pc...cool edit is only for pc..bias peak is only for mac....cubase, pro tools, reason, nuendo, sonar cakewalk, etc. is supported by both formats.....personally i prefer mac because they seem to be more reliable, 99% less risk of virus, and to me osx is more stable platform than windows xp, but im sure there are die hard pc lovers out there... ill tell u right now if u get one of them new g5 joints, nothing can touch that right now, nothing

acid is arguably the lowest qulaity popular seqencer on the market...cubase,pro tools, cakewalk, sonar,...all pretty much do the job better than acid..acid is very easy and quick to use ill defintely give it that...cool edit/soundforge equivalents for mac are bias peak, and wavelab are the two that come to mind..the only one i really wish they had for mac is cool edit..i cant hear enough about how hot the program is..bias is hot as fuc though..alot of people dont know about that one..its mad powerful, vst supported, and has some sick options and builtt in plugins....i use cubase sx for sequncing and bias for choppin and such...back when i had a pc i used acid/soundforge...i must say that i have much better results with the cubase/bias combo...vitaminman is the guy to talk to for the details

Wu,

I run:

PIV 2.5ghz, Cubase SX, Delta 1010 audio card.
G4 800mhz, Cubase VST, Yamaha DSP Factory audio card.

The rest of you:

Macs and PCs are just glorified calculators.

They both have:

1. CPU's.
2. motherboards
3. RAM
4. hard drives
5. video cards
6. sound cards
7. operating systems
8. input devices

What makes a computer special is the software you run on it. If you do video and audio, you can use either computer to get the job done.

If you like programs like Sonar, Cool Edit Pro, Premiere, Vegas Video, etc., then you'd better stay away from a Macintosh.

If you like programs like Logic, Final Cut Pro, Peak, Deck, Digital Performer, etc., then you'd better stay away from a PC.

It's that simple. No need to get into the frigging speed debates, because while one computer takes over in processing power one day, its competitors take over a few months later anyways.

At the moment the G5 looks to be a very nice machine, but it has a completely new bussing arcitechture that a lot of soundcards won't support (like the Digi001), a new operating system that not all softwares support fully, and a price tag. If I were buying one, I would wait until at least the next Mac World to get the second version, which will hopefully have all the bugs worked out.

If you guys are doing a lot of real-time video rendering, such a computer would be awesome. But based on some of the music I hear from some of you guys (and I repeat, some), you barely use more than 5 tracks in your compositions, which can be done easily on a PII 300mhz or older Power PC.

It is perfectly probable that one can do Acid-style looping on a Mac, but you would have to find software to do it for you.

Holmzini:

The only benefit to Cool Edit over some of the other programs in its class is that it has both a waveform editor AND a multitrack editor in the same program. Running both Deck and Peak (or Spark) would give similar results on a Mac, although it is nice to have everything run from the same program instead of switching between them. Like you said, Peak has some killer features (like VST support) which Cool Edit doesn't...you're doing alright; don't worry about what you don't have and focus on what you DO have.

Take care,

Nick

The biggest factors in audio production when recording on anything whether PC/Mac is Quality of Software and Audio Interface. The audio interface/soundcard's sample converters will determine the type of sound quality your going to get and the quality of the software being able to handle what your throwing at it is a big factor. I would have to say those two things mean a lot, and also the quality of your samples/voices whatever your putting together. I've heard music recorded on both PC/Mac sound real good, at most studios they use Mac because everything is packaged up for you already, they don't have time to tweak and set up certain shit they need something ready to go already with minimal configuring. The Mac platform will be a little more costly than the PC platform as well, but in the future that may change I don't know, and don't let that steer you away from either platform like Vitamin explained it depends on the software you want to use and then see how deep your pockets are. PC people are likely going to be spending some time tweaking and setting up their DAW (digital audio workstation) exactly how they want it, with the Mac you don't have to worry about doing all that.

PC's are just more user friendly in my opinion... more software is available... more customization is available... basically the PC is offering more viable options...

however the processing speeds and all from the mac are reaching new heights... but the programs they offer for mac are far and far between... if i ever used a mac for music productions i would most definitely purchase reason 2.5...

like i said the software and warez available for mac are few...

1 question... if i were to use a mac... wut track layout software would i use? since CEPro is only PC.

^^^^^ mac programs arent few and far in between... thers just as many for mac as for pc and some that are exclusive to the mac as others are to the pc. For editing there is bias peak, spark, wavelab, all on mac. like stated earlier, there are nuff sequncers for both formats......and for the record i think that macs are much more user friendly than pc's....i guess its just what u r used to but i have way less problems with my G4 1ghz than i had with my pc....my mac has not once crashed on me...only individual programs but then they work perfect next time..my pc used to crash all the time.. when i took it to the repair it had 17 viruses in it...macs ver rarely if ever, get infected, all in all theres not much difference betwen the two but ive had a better time with my g4

well lets see when i got a few thousand dollars to spend i will certainly invest in a mac, but as it stands a pc is cheaoper by leaps and bounds and as my budget isnt going anywhere (as far as i can see) for a while a pc is the better machine for my money..... i have enough to buy a used mac, but little else after that...... whereas with the pc i will have a swarm of vst's and samples to work with after i buy it......
