Line mixer to trim hot input to computer.

Well - Not too long ago i went to hook up my turntable to my computer through my 1820 breakout box and to my suprise, the phono preamps run extreeeeemly hot!....I ended up blowing a driver in my KRKs and realized that i cant rely on the RIAA turntable phonos on the cards box, so to make a long story long, i need to cop a line mixer to simply trim the incoming audio to the computer so that i dont blow my speakers again.


I really dont have any cash right now, but i also dont want to get a complete piece a shit. So with that said, i was looking at some reasonably priced mixers that will clearly do tha job but am wondering if their really neccessary for what i need them for?

I figure if i do front the cash for one of the above, itl def be the mackie but the tapco isnt that bad either. But considering what i currently need this mixer for, i even looked into buying something as crappy as this just because i dont have the money to spend in the first place:

I personally dont like Behringer stuff though, and feel that their stuff is mediocre and not much more. So for what i need it for, should i jus cop the cheapy Behringer, or go ahead and get the makie or the tapco?

Shit, after some thinking, i might just get the Mackie.....I didnt intend on getting something that had effects, but i would actually really benefit from a good reverb for recording vocals on sessions with emcees over, and from what i read the FX are great........Hmmmm - what to do?

man i aint had any experiance with any of those mixers you linked but what the fuck is up with blowing ya driver out!? thats fucked up man. did you get a replacement under warranty or something?

what exactly happened? is the bass all buzzy?

youd think emu would have their shit together better than that. r u sure you had it all hooked up properly?

Yeah yo - i fucking emailed EMU cuz the phonos are so hot that the incoming signal is rediculuosly dangerous on yer speakers,......I still need to send back the KRKS and i actually better do it soon before my warrenty is out, its just that those are my only speakers and im in the mood lately to grind out tunes.....!!!!,,,,,,,,,,,But EMU tried to act like its not cards fault, and its not really, but they need to fix patchmix or somethin then since even after turning tha channel strip ALL THE WAY DOWN durring the blow out the audio signal was still comin in strong in the redzone the whole time...there was nothin i could do....See, i turned everything down, including tha master and it didnt make a difference. So i asked if i need a line mixer to trim the heat comin in, and they were just like, " yeah, you might wanna do that!".....Like, thanks.....But yeah, so im lookin for a mixer right now and these are my choices for pinch'n pennies and still getting somethin that will not suck.

Fuckin A right!!!..........I kno, its retarded...Im kinda disapointed in the 1820 nowadays cuz i had higher aspirations of what i could do with it untill i actually tried those things, namely - dub vinyl into the PC through the breakout and use the micpre's for recording vocals obviously....The mic pres are good, but could be much better IMO....I really think that you would benefit much more from somethin like a JOe Meek, or a Avalon and then routing to breakout instead of directly in....Just my tastes i think tho?....And the fucking phonos are just rediculously hot, its like a 60db gain!!!!.............
