i have one. it isnt bad, but it lacks a stereo input- much needed for the midi realm. it is really aimed at guitarists (most of these are, it seems) so..... i would check out the new boss 8 track. its portable and has a stereo line input. this isnt a "mixer" as you would think of one, it is a recorder with mixing functions as a part of the whole piece.

no. you need a REAL mixer (mackie, etc.,) the mr-8 has only one input. (actually two...maybe 3?) and one of these that has a stereo input- the boss machine should work perfectly. your looking at several hundred dollars here.

I agree with T.T. if you are going to get a mixer get something that you're not going to out grow too quickly. Don't want to waste money!!

well, if you are using these for hip hop, you will ned a traditional mixer board and you would basically use the boss/korg/fostex as a mixdown deck before you put it to tape ordisc.

thanks for all tha replys...that really helps.
Im basically jumping into tha mixer catagory with nothing under my belt so all tha feed back is perfect.
So one of tha bosses is dope? I thought boss made some wack shit?...i suppose if you buy anything thats higher end its gonna be reasonably good though huh!?...i really dont know - im comparing a boss drum machine that i fucked with like years ago and that thing was the wackest investment i ever made!...but im definently gonna go look and see what kind of stuff i can get into...the mackies are really good i heard but they cost alot huh?
yo keep posting threads...im gonna leave here buying a dam mixer.
peace.

how much $$$ you got to play with? i would advise the software route if you are just beginning. i have been at this for a while, and i keep having to shell out more money just to get up to speed and have a complete system.... so i am seling my two hardware units and going the pc route myself. i would suggest that, because you can always add hardware later, and it will cost less to get a full setup at the biginning with software. check my threads in the lab (pc specs for recording) and software (who uses cubase) and you will see plenty of pros/cons for this.

I dont really got tha doe right now...but im lookin at spendin no higher than $300..i figure that should place me in a nice zone for somethin sufficient....im really investing in a mixer just for mic capabilities right now...is there a cheaper more equivalant way to do this and achieve tha same quality??Will a good sound card cut it?

Jus reason cuz im broke as fuck!
i also have cubase which i just got and havent configured yet, as well as
soundforge, cool edit two, trakor - - basically useless to me at tha moment, recycle, and magix samplitude 7 which i also just got and havent messed with yet.
As you can see i dont own one piece of hardware accept my Ox 8 and that bitch iz gettin dusty as we speak. Im all pc right now and probably going to continue that way and jus start adding more hardware to my computer as soon as i get another stupid job.

fuck! i got all off topic - anyway im reason 2.5 all the way...im looking into seeing what else is in tha same ballpark though...i hear fruity's dope, but im not super down with loops - i make my own instead from scratch...i dont even touch tha rex's on reason unless its alternative sounds to tha drums. But just tha other day i heard that fruity isnt completely loops so maybe ill check it out - im not really sure what else is out there?
