Just ordered a conga and bongo set for no reason

That's a great quote. I sometimes get that 'I need some real instruments' panic attack and snag a new thing. I did that for an electric bass. In a heat of the moment...moment. It was a ridiculous deal too, but I ended up returning it ater I came to my senses [and the jack was staticy].

Whenever I'm at the checkout I stare at the various egg-shakers and tambourines.
Thinking...my girl could do that on one my tracks...how cool would that be...

Thats a good investment...I assume you already have a decent mic and pre amp for recording...
I would buy some live percussion too but I dont own a mic and my acoustics are horrible.
