Sup, name's Mikie.

I'm just getting started with the production and producing sence, but I just need a few tips and a few helping hands, I guess you could say. I've been recording, freestyling, & writting since i was about 16 y/o. Now, I'm actually getting into the main part of the business. I got a few nice softwares, but need to know what's some nice hardware to get started with. I've never actually considerd mixing and making my own beats, I always used other hip-hop/rap instrumentals and whatnot. So, ya.. My rap name is 'xcon', I'm 21y/o, and NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS SHIT. LOL!. Anyways, i'll be waiting on replies so i know what to start ordering.

Here's my little list of software so far:
Adobe Audition 1.5
Reason 2.5
Sound Forge 8.0
Fruityloops Studio Producer Edition 5.0.2
Cakewalk Sonar 3.1.1 Producer Ed
Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0

Welcome to IllMuzik. That list of software looks perfect, you could try adding some hardware but even then, it's not needed at this point for you.

Welcome to you too xcon.

You seem like you already have a good start with the software. 'Far as I'm concerned, all you really need is a basic setup, like a good mic, basic preamp, decent compressor, and maybe Pro Tools if you feel like getting into the mainstream recording scene. Pro Tools is the industry standard (some wish it wasn't) and if you get your chops down then you can open your session in any studio and pretty much guarantee that someone has a setup.

Hope you get what you need from this forum. Good luck.
