I always felt like their were 2 production sides to Mr. Yancey. I felt like the early part of his career was his "Jay Dee style" but towards the later years with Donuts he had a whole new style during the Dilla days. I posted a Large Pro mix that went over well last week so decided to post this Dilla vs. Jay Dee mix...2 CD's, 1 with a rack of dope Dilla stuff, the 2nd with with a rack of dope Jay Dee stuff...stop through my blog to grap the link:

Woorrrd I completely feel you on how you feel he evolved his style in his later days, really dope idea for a tape. Downloading..

As far as Jazzy Jeff and camp jacking Dillas style, I feel ya, but I mean it didn't make his career or his label's (ATOJ). Its not like Jeff and his team wouldn't be doing they thing if Dilla never influenced them, just my opinon tho. Plus I'm pretty sure Jeff and Dilla were friends too.

I just think Jeff and his team straight BIT Jay Dee's whole style! I remember an interview with Quest and he was saying ho wJill wanted the Soulquarians (who's entire style is Dillaesque) to really work on her debut album but they were so busy doing other stuff that she ended up letting Jeff and his crew do the whole album and he basically says they just did an entire dillaesque album...not saying just cause Quest said it, that it' true, but like I said when I heard Jill's sampler I KNEW Jay HAD to have done it! And yeah, Jeff and Jay were cool but to me that makes it worst! Can you imagine someone who's down with you biting your style? But like I said, that's what's SO great about Dilla cause he was able to shed that style and go into an entire new style!

I feel ya, I guess I really can't say cause I haven't heard that album yet. That is pretty fucked up to do exactly the same style, but I mean if thats what the Soulquarians were looking for then I guess who is to blame Jazz and crew for earning a pay check and producing what the artist was looking for. IDK tho, its all said n done and I'm sure Dilla didn't have a problem with it. I've always heard Dilla's influence in JJ's work, but at the end of the day he has his own style in my eyes.
