alot of people who dont use samples should use samples cos when u hear there beats it sounds like some off beat techno track.

i respect the fact that u wanna take the time to put ur own melodies together but if it aint up to par what good is it?

ultimatley a listener aint gonna care how much time u put into.

"I don't really dig working with samples because your so limited when you sample"

"Actually, most of my music has been played."

"I'v tried to stay away from it throughout my career from day one."

All words of Dr.Dre.

Instead he just uses large sums of cash for professionaly musicians to interpolate samples !

evidently not. he replays and then EQs it an shit. just listen to California Love, that melody if from an old song, but you can tell he hasnt directly sampled it.

haha you are a funny dude...

cause i dont sample, and people in general cant even tell; they usually think i sampled, and i challenge you to find a Cold Truth Beat that sounds like techno... i cant stand it when people make these kinds of broad statements...... no offense, but you dont know what you are talkin about; its oflat out ignorant.

while i agree that a lot of music that comes out by keyboard producers tend to sound a certain way, that has to do with the producer- not the method. i dont sample and i use keyboard sounds exclusively and it sounds pretty damn good, and people tell me all the time they could it was a sample.

exactly. i know some beats come out soundun techno-ish when made by keyboard, but to be honest i think thats a stereotype that the South is responsible for lol.

i got alot of beats that sound sampled and have that same fat feel to them. remember, a keyboard doesnt just contain synth leads and claps...

if people cant tell u dont sample then ur probably doing a good job, but there are alot of peeps with keyboard/software and they shit sounds like some 8 bit computer game music those are the cats im clowning.

I have a synth too and im learning how to get the right types of sounds out of it but some pees is just fucking with the presets and playing the same 3 finger melody with different patches.

if ur gonna do that and have a "holier than thou attitdue" becasue u dont sample then i think ur confidence is misplaced.

yeah but some people who sample have a 'holier than thou' attitude aswell... not just the keyboard beat makers... y would they anyway?

Why do u think that if dre hire's a muscian to re-play something he heard on a record that makes him amazing? that dont make him original he still copied the record, which is the same thing samplers do but by a different method.

but i aint in no way downing dre, the point im making is we all copy something - period.

i dont have a holier than thou attitude towards it; i am only saying that you can make excellent synth beats that dont have a technoish sound.

if anything i am very humble, because while i have been able to fool people here and there, i know i have personal limitations- i know next to nothing about composing outside of what i have learned and feel through myself.

i just get irritated when AS A WHOLE the keyboard method gets routinely dissed, and i think that people dont take the big picture into consideration- that its the producer rather than the equipment that makes a piece what it is,

i have to jump in this conversation........i am (so far) strickly a "keyboard" producer....i've tried to sample and am still have trouble doing it..........so i am focusing on just original shit that i make.......i am improving with every beat, and sampling is a skill too, i just think someone is def more creative if they make thier own shit..........not putting anyone down, cuase to me a sampled beat sounds alot fuller............there is too much music to debate these methods.......i know this is not a showcase fourm.....but my newest "keyboard" beat is hot.............cut n paste my pare and the song is called pissed off!

I agree not all keyboard beats sound like they was made on a computer but Im saying there alot of people effectively making computer game music and swearing they are the better then anyone who samples. lol

yet these people tend not to even understand scales, chords and music but will still claim to have greater msuical intellect then a dude who samples.

those are the fools im laffin at, I know synth beats can sound hard I like dilla, oh no, madlib, spinna.

did you word that wrong? cause these cats sample allmost 99% of the time.. except dilla who did a couple synth joints... not many though i think alot of times people may think its an original composition its really a sample...

i still say chronic 1 was all samples.. i know dre has shit replayed but its not even half of his shit.. id say at least 75% of his discography is sampled based...

and im not tryin to get in the argument of which is better (sampling vs. synth) just thought i should point that out....
