is this shit normal? (vocal texture/mixing)

been jammin to this for a while now - I can't help but notice how HUGE the vocals sound. I mean on the chorus it doesn't strike me as unusual but on the verses... am I tripping or does this sound weird? it's not even a matter of "oh look how crystal it sounds, she's JUST next to my ear" like most mainstream mixes. it's just big. tf is this?

Multiple takes with takes panned hard left and hard right, group together on a stereo bus and remove some of the mid with a little boost on the sides then mixed under the main take, add some reverb, makes a vocal sound big. They need to be different takes, because no 2 takes are exactly the same, othereise there is phasing issues. I think there may be vsts that can make one take into harmonically pleasing variations by now.

ahh that's informative as hell ty. this post was originally written as a message to you, then I realized the mix feels different in general so I thought I'm either trippin or it might actually be an interesting topic. cuz the entire approach feels different than what I'm used to in this genre & era.

Cubase has a way to make different takes all sit perfectly in time with a chosen take, one of the reasons I use Cubase.
