It's just a .dll that can route(share) audio signals between programs.

thats what i read, but i cant figure out how to simply initiate it and link it up with cubase??...I figured at first it was just another machine you add to tha rack sort of like ReBirth from tha create menu - but its not there. So I assume reason just sees cubase then ?????

Hey,

We used to link Rewire programs at work, it's different for each application.

Simple answer: you MUST read in the host program's manual how its Rewire implementation works. Each host program has its own way of routing audio and transport control to and from the Rewire app.

If my memory serves me correctly, Cubase VST 3.72 supported the Rewire1 standard, which would mean that you can't use Reason with it, only Rebirth. After VST 5.1, Rewire2 was implemented, you should be able to run both Rebirth AND Reason with this version of Cubase.

Do you have a manual?

Take care,

Nick

Yeah.....I skimmed through it too but i didnt see anything about how to wroute them together - but it must be in there since it is tha manual..I always look at tha manual first, but if i overlook something or just cant get enough info - i usually hit you guys up - you know??

I have tha vst version of cubase by tha way and its VST32 5.0 if im not mistaken....i havent even used it yet, i also have tha sx 1.0 version but it doesnt want to work and iz fucked up or somethin so im tryin to use rewire with tha vst version....

Yo V - tell a few good VST's and Direct X's - since i got u on here aiight!

Hey,

If you have 5.0, I don't think Reason will work, only Rebirth.

Yes, I remember the 1.0 release of SX, recording MIDI was an absolute nightmare, I was pretty angry because I spent about $150 for the upgrade from VST 5.2. They're up to 1.06 now, things are a lot better, you should upgrade.

Good VST's? The only ones I run on my machine are Reaktor and Kontakt by Native Instruments. Most of the time I just use my hardware synths, but sometimes it's fun to mess around with sounds in the VSTi's, especially Reaktor which allows you to build your own effects/synths/samplers.

The only DX plugins I use are the Waves ones, but most of the time I'm happy using the ones in SX and Cool Edit

Take care,

Nick

Dam - sounds like i need an upgrade.

What limiting presets and compressions do you like in cool edit?
Thats a pretty dope program - i like it cuz its pretty intuitive...it kinda has everything where you think it should be...sort a like reason in my opinion.
Oh yeah...i jus got samplitude 7 - and im pretty impressed - its gotta a real nice interface and good presets with lots of flexibility. You should check that one out!

My Primary rewire host is Ableton Live. I launch Abelton first and then Project 5 and then Reason. I run Cubase SX but don't utilize rewire with it.

In my rewire setup- all of my audio is in complete sync. I load some one shots and some atmospheric loops in Live, load some synth sequences in Reason and perform in realtime with Project 5 and my slew of vsti's. Then I run my audio in (10 hardware devices synced by MTC) in another Live Channel. On occassion my DAW will blue screen, but for the most part Ableton has been the most solid Rewire host I have used to date.
