I want to have clean and crisp vocals so would a Mic preamp be necessary to give me a better signal than the mbox 2 gives by itself alone?

Well if thats the case get an preamp. It wont hurt it can only help. If u feel u gotta keep spendin money go right ahead fam. THe best thing to do is get da MBox and test its quaility since that is what u want right? If u arent satisfied wit the vocal recordings then get a mic preamp.

yo man, like i said before on another forum you remind me of me lol. You tryna make beats and elevate and improve that but at the same time you're also tryna have high quality vocal recording. Self contained unit of making the sick beats and recording hella nice quality, am I right?

Get a mic preamp. producer to producer advice on this, get a nice preamp and microphone. I recorded what i "thought" were decent quality recordings for years with no preamp or vocal booth or decent mic. Finally I built the booth, foamed it out, plexiglass etc... bought a $500 mic and $400 preamp and my shit is bumpin. Mad clarity and presence. Thing is tryna get money like that at your age is real difficult.

personally id go for an mbox, it will be good enough quality for what you want to do, your not guna be recording the next number 1 album in your room and mbox will have good enuff pre-amps to deal with woteava u need it to do !

I mean if ur doing alot of things it wud be good to have a pre amp ..after the signal goes thru each piece of equipment such as an EQ and compressor and shyt like that it losses some level and that Pre Amp will give u back that power..if the mbox dont have a pre amp and u doin mad shyt its a good idea

Vocal booth cost about $250 altogether. Shit is kinda difficult to plan out schematics an stuff for. I have taken a few woodshop classes over the years before and i'm pretty handy with making/followiing ideas but I gotta say I butchered the living fuck out of my vocal booth when I made it. Measured everything wrong imaginable lol but I still came through. You can see pictures of my booth if you go to my soundclick page and click on the pictures link.

I think the all of the wood and screws cost around $125. The plexiglass was $25. The foam was a lil less than $100. I got the foam off of ebay.

As far as plans go, you'd have to bust out the measuring tape and see where it'd fit in. You have to make it comfortable enough for someone to at least get into their performance. Mine is something like 4 and half feet by 3 and a half feet. It's 7 feet tall or so. I tried looking online for months for vocal booth plans. The "right one" doesn't exist. You have to take a lil bit from each one that you like and incorperate it but it will cost you. Theres no way around the costs you just gotta put up.

Hit me up if you need further help.

Peace
