Is it the death of filesharing?

Firstly www.torrentspy.com and now www.movieforumz.com have closed. It looks like the lawyers have found a way to force sites to keep records of its users for the prosecution of the members for sharing copyright material.
So instead of keeping records for big brother, they have closed down. I see a new dawn, i see a new world order.
Strange being as the labels are now indicating their move into the filesharing world.
Coincidence?

torrents have always sucked!!!! there are way better places out there to get the goods!!!! trust me..I know! And the best ones are secured overseas anyway.....U.S government can't touch those! any torrent based in the U.S will eventually get shut down....the best ones already have.

I noticed torrents as well as blogs that had strong memberships are all closing down. I hit up some of those links in the threads that posted all those beat resources and stuff. A lof of them were closing down.

I also know of some people who are getting notices from their provider letting them know they are being watched and sh*t. They look at your upload rate I guess.

LDB,

Why do you feel Torrent suck? I've been using them for almost anything you can think of. Music, Games, Programs, Ebooks, Movies.

What are the major flaws about torrents?

the number one flaw (if it's U.S. based) security! once they're raided they can trace you quick. u guys see what I provide for you upstairs (those with vip no what i'm saying). Not one thing is from a torrent site!!! Not to mention those torrent sites are full of virus laced goods. At my spot I don't have that concern.

On the traced scenario, how many people download from torrent based sites? Thats alot of people to go after for "Sharing" lol. The virus is more or less a risk with anything downloaded from the internet. Hell man if you wanted to you could fuck all of us with your goodie downloads. Half the time I see your posting somthing up to download I just go for it without even knowing what it is lol.

Torrents, downloads, Transfers, Sharing or what ever you want to call it will eventually evolve as it has been from the begining.

Control.

This is nothing new. File sharing has existed long before the internet in the form of BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems), for the computer dinosaurs like me. Every time there's been a threat to a "system" of sharing, a new one is developed. We had bbs's, home based phone-to-phone communication, which was when you snagged files one by one at slowwww speeds. Then the internet came along, with FTP and HTTP sharing, which was always a pain because of the short longevity of files. Then special message boards popped up catering to ftp's called FXP boards, where people would distribute files to public ftp sites and hope they wouldn't go down. Then came along Napster and programs like Morpheus and E-mule.. it's just part of the cycle, people will find new ways, despite anti-piracy advocates. Anyways, that's my rant.

ok...I can believe that! Good spin on it!

Piratebay won a court case brought against them, but personally Im losing trust in torrent sites now. I think that to continue running they must be keeping records of the activites of its members to hand over to the authorities.
The fact of the matter is, that its a series of 0's and 1's that are being shared. You cannot copyright information of that fashion. Thats the stand piratebay took and they won their case. But in reality, the power of corporations over both the UK & US governments makes them very powerful lobby groups and gives them an unfair advantage in getting laws passed in their favour. I think that Pug is right, there are many beleivers of freedom of information in the world, there will be a new method of file sharing soon enough, maybe LDB has already found it. I remember the message board method and then the napster method and then the torrent method. I look forward to the next method. I like to try before I buy, and torrents give me an informed choice of what Im going to spend my money on.
Long live freedom of information, as without it, I would be a braindead zombie that beleived everything our lying self serving govt's tell us. Movieforumz was a great source of alternative media, i will miss it dearly.
