I missed 5 lOL same here, they said even if you are guessing you could get 15 right okay...that was a good test its really closer to being able to distinguish a tonal change between two notes, that test is really like trying to play by ear I dont know who hear has ever tried it, I think a lot of the hoopla is that people are not taking time to either tune (lazy or in a rush), mixing or making beats in headphones or because of lack of knowledge are forming or voicing their chords wrong especially composing....but its something you have to focus on, I doubt anyone here is truly in the sense of the definition is tone deaf, none of their beats would even sound right none of their tracks would be in tune...the key is this, if you can play by ear pretty accurately you are not tone deaf, if you can compose, you are not tone deaf.....if its out of tune 1 of 2 things you are too lazy or you made a mistake just that simple....no one here is perfect by any stretch...close but not perfect.....make music and move on thats what i say, take the feedback and fix it! if you see it let someone know they can fix it, if your tuning skills are off go get some ear training that can be fixed, thats a midi program that they play notes and you have to decide if its a half step, whole step above the next note etc then get to the point you hear a note and can find it the first time on your keyboard, and yes you can fix that, tone deafness is a disability that you cant fix.

Co-sign, I bought a midi-controller 2 years ago almost, and now I really develop my ears. Now i remake a melody faster, exemple when i have a sample. Pretty proud of my self :d

I had a 26 out of 30! Score. But I got to say it's a little biased that test, cuz sometime it's a memory test like Simon Says game. A couple times, when the pair was longer, by the time it ended i forgot some of the notes lol. But that's a great test.

And, can you give a link to that midi program "play notes and you have to decide if its a half step, whole step above the next note" ??

I used earope a long time ago it definitely helps, yeah that test is like simon says but like I said if you ever played in any type of garage or organized nightclub band, you dont use sheet music most of the time, you get the song, sit back and listen to it, use your ear and go to work (sort of like the test ) and figure it out til you get it right and listen and compare, now mind you you have a guitar player, maybe another keyboard player and a bass player, oh and vocalists that all help at practice time in case there was someone that got it wrong...it happens all the time....thats why I dont understand the so called musicians or accomplished samplists throwing rocks at others here its a normal occurence to correct each other and point things out to help them get their ish straight if its just a tuning issue.

i think a producer can be slightly tone def and still make some good songs. Everyones ear is trained differently. I have worked with producers not just beatmakers but producers that have produced and put togeather great songs and song concepts. On some songs though those same producers cannot pick up little sounds or instruments that may be off tune or in the wrong key or certian singers with certian voices can be an octave or 2 out of pitch on a particular song and they dont quite catch it. Different peoples ears are trained to pick up different things. The more you practice listening to different types of music and mixing the better your ears get. I got good at it from years of djing and mixing but its not that easy for everyone

there are many levels of 'producers'
making beats, bringing people together, mastering, engineering
the word producer is really pretty general,

do i think you can make beats and be tone deaf ? yeah...
but i dont think you will be as universal as some of the competition

in any case, if you enjoy making music, just do it, who cares!

I'll have to say that of course you can make hot beats being tone deaf. I mean composed beats. see people may not be able to hear the difference in tone but they may have learned to stay in key but not neccesaraily be able to hear that they are doing it right. they might just being doing it cause they were taught how to but not be able to hear what they are doing correctly I don't know if i explained that right but I hope yall understand
