I currently use Fruity Loops and it does th job perfectly for me, but I was wodering ifI should be using something else. What is the next step? Also, I believe fruity loops is as easy to use as a telephone. Is the new software the same??

Brainstream, Imma tell you the truth, I was a Fruity Loops hater but the new producer edition and added soundfont player changed my mind completely, I have had just about every hardware piece known to man...hahaha but I recently put lots of focus on tearing it all down...and
I got gigs of samples......in my opinion I think if you learn Fruityloops and how to sequence you can make slamming tracks.....don't get me wrong the only thing I would want at that point would be the mpc because I just like to sequence my drums on there and you can get a little more kick for some reason that always comes across in a mix...keep what you have and learn it backwards and forwards I think that Fruity is the most economical software to make beats.....

BigD speaks tha truth, but there are a ton of other prorams like fruity these days. Tha only other prgm that i know of though thats been around as long or longer iz Reason, and Cubase...I currently use Reason, and im 100% happy with this software...it does everything it says it does, plus its very intuitive - which iz important in transending an idea quickly onto tha computer. I havent used fruity yet, but from what i read - fruity has a less intuitive interface vs. reason, as well as tha ergonomics inside tha prgm...Reason iz apparently easier to switch and see your music rack, and plug n go type action makes it quick and painless to hook things up and start new ideas. Theres probably not a very large difference between tha two though...But just as future referance - There a million refills you can buy for Reason which are usuallymore than enough sounds for days and days of production, plus Reason supports Wave (.wav), AIFF (.aif), SoundFonts (.sf2), REX file slices (.rex2, .rex, .rcy), Any bit depth, Any sample rate, and Stereo or Mono files...ever since there first release - Reason 1.0....PLus, with Reason you can use tha refill packer and make your own refills which a awsome space saver!...Any random files which have been downloaded from tha net or files that have simply accumulated on your computer that are to be used for music production can packed into a conveinant refill which reduces tha file size of all your audio almost half of what it used to be - without any quality lost!.......So now you got some info on reason....Hope i helped you out!

If you are comfortable with the outcome, and it fits within your desires as a producer, then go with what works. However, if you feel limited, consider expanding your options to cater to your needs.

Sincerely,
God

Fruity or reason are no doubt the kings of beatmaking. that is unless you ask most big professionals ( timb, dre, neptunes, j.d) All of those guys use Protools and tritons and akais and the list goes on. For the rest of the world though who can't afford no 10,000$ program, fruity is a slick deal.

As everyone knows I am The Official Hater Of Fruityloops, but I have found some use for the program. I use it to create bass grooves. I save and render to ACID to finish my creation. I have changed my position on fruityloops (9th wonder) plus like pisnut said, it's a slick deal for thin pockets.

Good advice from everyone. I think you should keep using Fruity Loops / FL Studio for as long as you can. To answer your other questions Fruity is one of the easist to learn software that I've come across.
If your looking to expand your setup maybe consider an Akai MPD-16 which is like the MPC pads but for you PC and is great for programming your drums. I assume you've already got a midi keyboard, but if not I'd mos def recommend getting one of these as well.

good luck

Ok look this is a lil secret I know you figgured it out though.....I am too lazy to always swap vinyl on my tables (I am not a DJ)....so I just record every record I can get my hands on to my computer, sort of like the vinyl library or virtual crate.....then I use it to cue my song and then feed the output into my other comp.....and then use fruity as a sampler....and then edit the sample in there and chop it too....it reminds me of sampling into my mpc.......and it is a good way to make a lot of samples for your tracks for later use....
