Tech TV brought up this issue a while back. It sucks that Apple would do something like that, I mean charging that guy $250 to replace the battery is unacceptable. But, you can do it yourself for about $60. You just have to be careful not to scratch the shit outta the casing. I think they said use a credit card.

i had my ipod for 6 months and it just freezed on me... i took it back in circuit city and in 20 minutes i had a new one in my hand... i don't know nothing abou the apple service though...
