IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL THE DJs

i decided to make a thread out of this since i wasnt sure if all the Djs on this site were actually checking the thread Holmzini made.

We will be having a Dj thread in the Showcase soon. I just have to finalise it with Afrique.

Fade said it would be open for 2-3 days just like the normal beat thread.

I was thinking that we would wait untill the Beat This competition is over so that those who are entering AND posting in the DJ thread will have enough time to concentrate on getting their beat ready for the due date. Then once thats over we can give it a couple of days for all the Djs to get ther shit ready and then we can put up the Dj thread.

I have devised some guidlines for posting in the Dj thread. If you disagree for any reason with any of these guidlines of if you have something to add, post it here.

GUIDLINES
- both scratching, juggling and mixing may be displayed. you can do any or all three. they may be done on individual recordings or joined in the style of a DMC set or as seen fit. also, if your going to do a DMC style set, dont make it 6 minutes long. 3 minutes should be enough time to show your skills.

- when choosing the beat on which to lay your scratches, keep in mind that the more "empty" the beat is, the easier it will be to hear the scratching. by all means, use a nice beat but sometimes cats choose beats with a bunch of layers and you cant even here shit properly.

- all scratching, juggling and mixing is to be done in one take......and that goes for sets too. if you dont feel you are tight enough to do a set, simply record your cutting/jugglin/mixing individually as i suggested earlier (but dont join them). the reason for this giudline is to make sure that DJs ARE ACTUALLY CUTTING. there is a WACK new school trend which seems to be going around where Djs are actually COMPOSING their scratches using the cut and paste function in a software editor. That isnt Djing. That is producing. therefor, shit should be done in one take. no fixing of mistakes once you shits recorded.

- the only exception to the above rule is when you desire to MAKE the actual beat that your going to cut over ON THE DECKS. obviously, one person cannot make a drum beat AND do the cuts on the decks at the same time. so the drum scratching and sample scratching may be recorded individually and then layered. the one take rule STILL APPLIES to the recording of the drum scratching and the sample scratching though.

- note that the idea of this thread is NOT a battle. i assume if djs want to organise battles after this, they can be done in the same fashion that the normal beat battles in the Showcase are done in. the idea of this particular thread will be to share your djs skills with everyone on illmuzik and preferably OFFER your skills (if possible) to all those who dont have access to a Dj but might desire some Dj work on a track they may be working on.

thats all i can think of right now

any disagreements/suggestions?

look forward to some constructive comments and lots of "yo im down cunt" style replies.

word the fuck up
