well...... where do i begin?

im not driving cab anymore. i started out making good money, and that dwindled down to last months grand total of like, $800. i couldnt make rent in full and i did a patch job on my bills. ive had nothing but drama with the other drivers and my boss for various reasons. im not totally innocent in everything, but it was a lot of shady things that happened to me there, too many incidents to count. the latest being that i went in to work last night and the owner had my number removed from the board. nobody would tell me what was going on, nobody would tell me why or anything. they just dropped me. so, im stuck. i spoke to a bartender friend of mine, and she told me that she had a job for me, $16 an hour drilling water wells. cool, i figured i would take that route in the interim. after talking with her boyfriend, this job is much more then anticipated.

come to find out, the 16 is only half the story. thats a starting wage for one part of the job. it completely skyrockets after that... and while i will have literally no social life for the bulk of this year, if all goes well and i can take it for a year, i'll walk out with 6 figures next year. once you are on the "rig", they will pay for your hotel stays so that you dont have to drive to and from everyday. which means, i'll have only food, auto insurance, and gas expenses for the next year and sock everything away as best as i can. its a great setup for the long haul, i think, but its one hell of a sacrifice to make in the meantime.

after that, im trying to get out, buy a fixer-upper home, build my studio on the inside, and really dig in to music. i havent really had the time or energy this last 9 months or so. my venture back into it has been so-so, but with my work schedule these last 5 months, i simply havent had the energy. after this year im taking a year off of work, and i will b\e able to afford that easily if i can stick out this one year.

actually, i have a friend who did this and made about 70 grand in abuot 6 months.... i know its legit, its just very taxing physically. for me, emotionally as well... cause im really not going to be seeing friends or family or anyone for very loing stretches of time, almost like a military stint or something, just with a massive boatload of money as a reward.

anyhow, just lettin everyone know, im gonna be ghost, by large for this next year, but i'll be checkin in with progress. hopefully i can handle it. i'll be setting my self up for some big things if i can make it. this is going to be a tough chapter for me.

damn at this point it seems you have to make choices but if you could man, the first thing i would get off my check would be a laptop with reason or fruity, a shitload of samples and maybe the cheapest service possible with internet via pda or phone...I know that sound like a lot but there's ways to stay connected once you start making the bread you said you would i bet...anyhow man, life is funny how it deal you cards and the ones you pick and choose are the ones you have to play so good luck man!

i hear you on all of this, but i honestly doubt there will be much time for all of that...
i do plan on getting the laptop and a fantom xr somewhere in that time. i already got battery and cubase, so basically that and an interface and i'll be set if and when i am so inspired.... i'll drop in here and tehre and keep folks posted, but by and large im gonna sleep as much as i can... cause ive spoke to two guys about this job and they're telling me its an extremely taxing job physically... and i still do sketch beats and whatnot, but even with the 12 hours of driving i still dont have a lot of energy.

mainly this is taking a year to set up the following year as good as possible..

Damn man that's huge! Everything happens for a reason though, maybe this is exactly what you need - to get away from everything and start fresh. Who knows what kind of things will come up after this. Best of luck to you, I'll keep you on as a Moderator just to scare people LOL.

yeah, actually this is a water rig job, thankfully. the pay isnt structured that way either, lol hell those guys actually get days off! most of what you bring in from this job is overtime.... thats half your salary, that time and a half rate you get for the 40 hours extra, plus double time on sundays and things like that.

actually, the water rig looks like a much better oppurtunity... just much less rest for you...

im gonna be a roughneck! ha!

Word is bond that's a good move Bro'. I am a contractor myself, but not an oil or water rig worker. I normally have to go into the danger zone to get my dough. For example; I spent 2 years in Bosnia living in a damn tent freezin' my ass off and working sometimes 20 hours a day. I have to say though, that the money I made was well worth it. I know about those 15 hour days working your ass off with no social life to speak of. I've also worked on a ship for 6 months at sea. At the same time; I also know about clockin' 150 G's in a year and livin' it up. I know you are a smart dude; but I have to give you some tips anyway. lol I am a seasoned contractor and I know the game very well.

You will be working long hard hours, don't sweat it. After awhile it will become natural to you.
Being that this is your first contract you will be making money that you have only dreamed of before. You will be tempted to buy a bunch of shit that you really don't need just because your pockets are full. Be smart about it; you really don't need that ice grill or that spacesuit at this time. STAY FOCUSED!!
Every bill that you have should be paid off. Get rid of all debt at the very beginning with your first few checks. The sooner you get out of debt, the sooner you can start to bank.
After you get out of debt; save every dime that you can. You never know if you will have this oppurtunity again. BANK! BANK! BANK!
Work hard but don't burn yourself out.
Remember, your goal is to make as much money as you can in the shortest period of time. If there is a chance to put in overtime DO IT! It will only make your check bigger.
Don't take no shorts and don't kiss no ass.
Don't burn any bridges. It's okay to singe them a little bit but don't burn them down. lol
The dude you dissed today could possibly be your boss tomorrow or on the next contract. These jobs are like that for real.
Do network and get to know who is around you. That is how you find out about other jobs that may be opening up or if the contract that you are on is going to end early for some crazy reason.
I don't know what your plans are but as for me I am a contractor. I go where the money is. That means if a company calls me and says We have a contract in Korea or Singapore or anywhere making 100g's, I'm on the next flight out to new adventures and new money!
But that's just me. Like I said; I'm a contractor fo' real!
Be the "Go-To Man". Be that worker that your supervisor can depend on to get the job done. He will remember you later on and you will not have a problem if you want to work with the company again.
Because of the fact that I am normally one of the "Go-To" men everywhere I work; I am one of the first people that is called when a major contract opens up in my field. I even normally have a choice as to what position I want to fill also; because my work ethic and accountability record is well known.
Don't be lazy by any means. If you are branded as lazy, it will follow you wherever you go.
When everyone else is bullshittin' you be the one that is still workin' or atleast putting on the appearance of working. This has kept me from being laid-off so many times that I can't stress it enough. I also know guys that can't get a job from a lot of major companies just because they did'nt perform well with one of them. Their names were passed on and marked as "do not hire".
Learn everything that you can so that you will be able to change positions if needed. This will give you more job security if you are able to do more than one task.
BE SAFE!! This should have been the number one piece of advice. This type of work can be very dangerous and cause loss of limb or even loss of life!
As a supervisor myself, I try and instill safety into all of my employees and it is not something to be taken lightly.
Making all that cheese is addictive, believe me, you will want to do it again. After awhile it will become "easy money" to you and you will be wondering why all of the new guys are still complaining.
Well I could go on further; but I'm sure you get the point and some of this probably did'nt need to to be said; but this some of the advice that I give to every one of my new contractors so that they can get the most out of the job.
Overall just enjoy yourself and make that dough!
