I Hate Making Drum Patterns

It's gettin' to a point where I hate making drum tracks. I'm using the hell out my breaks and looped beats. Drums are essential but hey you can only do but so much.<ARGUMENT? Hell, 85% of all the tracks we like.... USE THE SAME FREAKIN' DRUMS OVER AND OVER.

When I do make drum tracks I have:
3 kicks
5-7 snares
4 high hats
Basic percussion inst (if needed)

I chop the shit out of a break now. Totally change the pattern or even maybe layer another straight loop over what I've chopped.

I like the simple "in the pocket" style drumming like Don Brewer & Buddy Miles
Erick Sermon and Diamond D have the kind of drum tracks I love so much.

How do you guys feel?

I Make My Drums Sound As Real As Possible.
I Want People To Think They Are Hearing A Live Band.

After Every 4th Time The Beat Is Played I Offset The Drum Pattern 2 Slots Until Its Repeated 3 Times Then On The 4th Time Around Im Back On The Original Drum Pattern By Leaving 2 Slots Of Open Space Before I Bring It Back In.

the drums can make or break a track. just think of the track 'Still Dre', imagine if it had different drums, it would just be another album filler.

I'm glad you said that... that is one of favorite tracks by him. That space and crispness is what I want to achieve.

But still, all drums basically sound the same to me. I think big name producers have a small group of "signature" drum sounds. You know a Neptunes track when you hear one. You know a Havoc or Erick Sermon track when hear them.

I'm not saying throw any old drum sounds in... NO! I just use the better of my "signature" shit!

Acid 4
Ableton Live
Adobe Audition
(I stopped using SONAR 3)

I use the eq's and filters in Adobe Audition and sometimes my waves plug-ins

What software do you do this with, and what again are you saying this does?
