If i replace my motherboard and cpu, will i need to re-install any of my software?

and can i simply backup everything on my hard drive to dvd, can i simply copy the dvds to the hard drive if i were to replace that too, or would i have to re-install everything?

everything is acting buggy as of late. i probably wont replace the hard drive but the motherboard and cpu will definitely be upgraded in a few weeks. im going for either a 3.0 ghz pentium 4 cpu and compatable motherboard or athlon 3000 setup, not sure yet between those two.

just want to know what kind of transistions these things may take before i jump in and have to start real troubleshooting blindly... i want to at least be prepared for whatever i'll have to do.

i don't know i belive you software is on your hard drive but i not foshure so i would back up every thing on an external hard drive then change it.

yes you will have to do a complete install of os. so you need to back up all of your stuff. think about it like this you just put a new computer together. you need to make sure that the ram is the same freq as the mobo as well good luck.

Yeah i think u do too, cuz once u re-install yer OS yer most likely gonna have to format yer drive - there is tha option of simply upgrading, or re-installing yer OS over tha old one, but i dont know what happens when u take that shit out and then replace it?

DRIVERS<-------...thatz the key.....if it were me and I had a software program like say...Norton Ghost I would make an image of all of my shidd b4 I started this upgrade......or at least back up all of my data files...so if there were a mishap or something...you can go back to the original config.....then do the clean upgrade.......but if you just switching out hardware and keeping the same OS....just find the drivers for the USB Hub...the pci bridge...etc...those drivers might come with the motherboard...

Yo, itz smart 2 backup the software jus ncase sumthin werd happens but

NO, NO, NO U DONT NEED 2 REINSTALL ANY SOFTWARE.
When u install a new cd burner u dont hav 2 backup n install everythang again RIGHT.
Cuz itz jus a motherboard n thatz not a harddrive so it want erase ur harddrive cuz
ive done this be4 twice.

ok YES i say it again when you set up windows there is a Kernal file it say"Hey i have a 2.0 ghz Processor in me with this type ram and at this speed" Now you throw a 3.0 Ghz "Its like hey this Kernal isnt for this Processor" and you will have problems.... Trust and Believe i did this for my Sonar 3 update you HAVE to reinstall windows for the Kernal adjustment. im just trying to save you some Problems later down the road.ONE

if you install a new motherboard you ll have to set up the bios and when you go into the bios there ll be an option to boot off the hard drive, hook it all up and see if it boots into windows or whatever you have, youre not formating your hd so if wont erase it, but if it doesnt work then the problem is probably what goin4broke said and you ll have to do that
