I know every piece I have ever owned, I started out completely using hardware gear....and become highly proficient with how to use each piece...a brand new piece of gear to me at least say for instance something like Triton any of the High end workstations have so many features you might think you know every aspect but that's a hard task,, whenever I get a new piece it sets me back and the learning curve is like 4- 6 months b4 I feel 100% comfortable with all of the features, that doesn't include all of the tricks of the piece that aren't in the manual, I have started using logic for about 90% sequencing and bring together all of my gear on the midi chain....so there's not a lot to know on every single piece as far as features on the individual machine...except if I sequence on the MPC or the SP to do all of the drum programming.....

I know every piece of gear inside out and used them to the fullest potential. Everything I have and that works by midi/cvgate is hooked and sequenced/automated by Logic. It's not really an issue, if you dont know the least bit in your gear than you probably dont know jack about producing. All hardware interfacing is emulated on software, so eitherway, knowing hardware is knowing software, vice versa isn't much more practical.

I know about everything there is to know about plenty of different types of hardware because of trial and error... I've seen my share of hardware.

As far as software goes, I know Nuendo/Cubase and have messed a bit with Fruity Loops. Mostly Nuendo, and there's ALOT to learn. If you are just starting out, use Fruity Loops or somethin cuz it's simple, yet powerful. after you get a few hundred thousand keys pressed under your fingers, use something a bit deeper like the Nuendo...
