How to get crisp vocal samples????

If I have a voice sample with a beat in the background, how do I phase the beat out without messing with the vocals so much??

i would suggest cutting the lows, and just mix it in like that... if there are any hits or percussion sounds within the samplee, chop and adjust so that it is in time with your beat... usually, only the vocals will really shine through, and the rest of the instrumentation on the sample will blend in with your beat.
