Just asking. I think its time for a change, everyone has there own style, but it comes and goes. Seems like we are in an 80's style rewind for the music.

Whats ya'll opinion?

I wouldn't say it comes and goes. One style may just be more prominent from time to time than others. Authentic Hip Hop hasn't gone anywhere! It's just not as dominating as it once was. Southern music isn't going anywhere. It may not be as big as it is right now, but its found it's place. I see a happy medium right around the corner. Why? Because that's the only way hip hop can move forward. Everybodys style has to be accepted. The sooner we all realize that the better off hip hop will be.

I can see the westcoast and the eastcoast bouncing back with a vegence very soon. It may just be a situation where every coast shines at the same time! Wouldn't that be something to see? Everybody doing what they do and no hate! LET US PRAY!

Well believe it or not, the majority of record companies do pick up artists and songs that did create a buzz from the local scene. They don't pick up these dudes and tell them to pull off a gimmick, there was already a local following to the songs on the southern-dance-tip. And as long as these dudes and songs keep generating interest, the southern beats aren't going anywhere.

I just wish there would be more quality control and balance in the music business nowadays but that's a completely different subject...

You're one in a few that get that point. Why people keep hoping for the down fall of a music is beyond me. I don't get it! Pisses me off actually. Nobody down south wished, hoped or pray'd for the east to fall off or any other region for that matter. And if you live in Atlanta but wish the A would fall off....you need to be getting back to where you come from. That shit right there makes absolutely no sense. You won't turn the south into Chicago, New York or any other region nor should you try. It's pointless and that's hustling backwards. The labels aren't listening to the cry of the haters, so at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what they hope for!

I'm with u manguino....the only problem is that there's no balance! I guarantee the haters want to be able to do shows in the south but they want the music to dry up and die, at least what they deem bullshit anyway. Them dudes built a following like you said and got there shit on there local radio stations. That's what made the labels come knocking. The nay sayers need to do that in there Kneck of the woods before that automatically start hating. If your people aren't following your music then who's fault is that? lol

This shit always comes up and it's always the same story.

calm down killa.....the problem is it all sounds the same....I'm not "praying" for anybody to fall off. but when every beat sounds the same and the lyrical content is "shoulders, chest, pants, shoes, WIPE ME DOWN"....that shit's gotta stop. I like some southern artists...the ones that push the envelope...but these generic acts make me sick. good music is good music no matter where it's from.

Naw...the problem is all you're hearing in New York is music from the south. Everything down here don't sound like that wipe me down shit. You just hear what you hear in NY so it's not really fair to label the whole south that way. We won't continue this shit though because it's the same story. That fact remains that if you can't push your shit where you live and build a big enough fan base to get on, blame your music or your people because if "your" people support you by the thousands you'll get a deal! Simple as that.

Balance....

Ive said this a million times in a number of different threads , there is a BIG difference between the new south ish you hear now on the radio and true southern hip hop...

For most southernheads, myself included, the ish out now distrubing...Its not that i have a problem with southern dance songs, hell i came up on 69 boys, luke, and jam poney DJ's

But back in the Day there was balance

For evey Luke joint on the radio you had 8ball and MjG
for evey 69 boys joint you had goodie mob song
for every "Tootise roll" or A town stomp you had scareface our outkast

I like to dance just as much as the next man.... but now this shit has gone to far, there is nothing to balance out this gimmeky club bullshit that is being PUMPED out my region, and to make it worse they are using the souths name in Vain.. These cats need to take DRE 3000's advice on the walk it out remix ....

drama boi, i think your overly senstive at times when it comes to the south on these boards
i was the same way when i first got on this forum.. but you gotta understand most cats exposer to southern music up here is what they here on the radio.. and right now, rather you like it or not,,,, its not a good look.... mainstream southern hip hop is BAD man, real bad...Its part of the problem with hip hop in general..Over exposer of one type of subject matter. Solider boi, snap shit, hurricane chiris etc...etc.. come on man.. And then cats up here is copying the whackness thinking that it will selll.. The same thing happend in the 90's when everybody was on that west coast gansta shit.. hopefully it will pass soon...

Hopefully the "corney" sounding southern style beats will be out real soon as well.....

I'm no more overly sensitive than the haters are overly hating! It's not going back to the day when "you" think it was that real south shit. That's fact, that's how it is, and that's what it is!

It's the old southern pioneers fault that there not around, not the new souths fault. 8ball and MJG were put over Bad Boy south and did absolutely nothing with it. Face headed up Def Jam south and did absolutely nothing with it. He signed one act, Luda, and sat back and damn near let Luda bring all the new acts to the label before it folded.

They are the ones that jumped from label to label to label to label. They started chasing the money. It stoped being about the music.

The bottom line is that is not right to lump the south into one pot and say it's whack! No body clarifies what they mean until they're confronted. When I step up in the souths defense is when you get that same line, it's the "new south artist" and how the old southern rappers where the shit. Nobody drove Face out the game..he took his own leave of absence and the same goes for the rest. Nobody forced the old heads out...they just departed. They should have put people under there wings to keep what you guys like pumping....they didn't. They stuck to there little clicks and never branched out. What did you expect would happen?

p.s. I'm from the old south era but I'm not going to follow suit and hate on the new dudes. If I don't like what they put out I don't support it. SIMPLE!

So what the old heads left.., does that give the bullshit that’s out now a pass?? i don’t think so.. You would think cats would learn from other artists with longevity and not make gimmkey pop songs. Again your missing my point.. They should have taken outkast’s lead and made entire albums which can span a career.( the only new southern artists who really did that that is T.I & Luda.)
There were plenty of opportunities for the younger new south cats to get mentored by the old school heads. But a lot of these new cats wanted to take the Cash money no limit route, start their own labels etc.. and not learn the craft of being an artist…So you got a bunch of young ass dudes looking for the next hit not really caring about the music or the message…and this shit has dramatically brought down the level of music coming out the south..(and hip hop as a whole)

I don’t think anybody has come out and said, “The south is whack”. People just aint feeling the ish that is being called southern music by all the DJ’s , MTV etc..

And YES you do have to separate the old south from the new south.. because most of this new south shit is whack!!! Yea i said it, and im not hating either. Im looking at it purley from a musical standpoint. The new south stuff that is out now is going to be looked at the same way, disco was looked at in the 70’s and the hairspray bands were looked at in the 80’s, entertaining, funny to watch, but not good music…

You cant lump me into the same East coast southern hater category you have been using on everyone else. There is a high probability that we grew up very similar environments listening to the same music. You think I want to hate on the shit coming out of my home state of Florida?? U think I enjoy saying that dudes from my old neighborhood (plies) are not good rappers. Nahh man… I don’t, but it is what it is.. and in order to fix the problem you gotta acknowledge it.

I think your Confusing hate with honesty

WE'RE 2 DAMN MUCH ALIKE!

You stand up for what you believe and so do I. We don't just throw words out, we back shit up with fact. Our differences are really not that much off. As long as we keep it in perspective we can go back and forth til the end of time. People who read what we say are getting a history lesson of the south so at the end of the day it's constructive. HOLLA!

And yea....PLIES is the worst dude ever to come out of Florida. I hope like hell he never releases another album...that shit is worse than soulja boy, but on a diff't level! And the thing is to hear dude conversate on a t.v. interview like I heard on 106 & park, he seems to be an educated cat. Is his persona a gimmick? I figure you'd know being from Fla.

Yea...that shit is definitely leaving a bad taste in everybodys mouth about the south. It's not your age...it's just hard to except ignorant shit especially when it comes from someone who doesn't have to sound that way. That puts the whole south in a bad light.

"How long will the South beat style be on the charts? "

Til next Wednesday at 4:19 PM. Then it's gonna be all polka, all the time.

Thats what the fuck im talkin about, put all them lessons from my youth to good use...

i agree wit drama on this one, everybody entitled to they own form of entertainment, i think most of the frustrations stem from the lack of balance, i used to be a hater too but u cant knock how some people genuinely enjoy themselves, its gonna be around so long as people like havin fun. Dont blame the people who make the music blame the media for forcing its exposure on you. its ironic though that the people who dont watch tv complain about it but its a double edged sword cuz most of us dont listen to radio or watch tv because of the lack of variety, but then we cant affect something that we dont consume, pretty soon everybody just gonna have they own radio/tv station like myspace and Youtube. Necessity is the mother of invention...think about it

and conversate isnt a word, its a FACT look it up.
