Basically the most I have spent total is probably around 1 or 2 G's @ 1 time but over a period of time maybe 15G's @ the most and that is over a period of about the last 5 1/2 years thats how long I have been back at production seriously but I was making tracks a lot longer but just for my own experiments and not working with anyone seriously, then I took a lil break of a few years as I played in bands in that time too, initially a few people that asked me for some songs to rap to helped get me started I think I initially bought my first drum machine and keyboard in like 92...Alesis HR16 & some yamaha keyboard I can't remember it but ....I bought the drum machine from a music store for about 200 then and I got the keyboard @ a pawn shop.....I already had a stereo that had aux inputs to record my tracks to cassette tape and then got a 4 track fostex....probaby spent 400 dollars total......then later on bought an SP12.....LOL , but its all on what you want to do because.....I think I said this before, the majority of people that really get behind a big talk and support of software for the most part usually have jacked it and producing on some illegally acquired software so its easy to see why 1. everyone is producing and 2. everyone can make an argument that a software setup is possibly a lower cost alternative to a gear or hybrid lab with Gear and software.....so what they invest is minimal if they didn't pay a dime to start producing, they don't see the money that probably is required Hardware or Software wise....if you have to come out of pocket for software like Reason and a Good controller you are already getting ready to approach the amount of money that could get you hardware, but I am not saying everyone who has software didn't pay shidd.....but most people I know didn't and if they had to buy it out of pocket they couldn't even afford to produce, and I have bought Reason, Fruity and Logic and also soundforge @ one point.....if you have all of these you have spent about the same as a cat with a hardware setup.......so people that think just because you have hardware you are somehow a bigger spender or waisting money thats a wrong analogy.....or that they waste their money....I sell beats and then buy new gear but then not only that if you get a classic piece of hardware a lot of times a few years later you can resell it or trade it and get a nice piece of change back for a newer piece........but I also have seen people that go and buy all of this gear and call me up to come tell them how to hook it all up or help them set their studio up......

oh man ive put in about 8'g's and still really dont have nothing,lol Ive only been producing for a month or so for the last year or so ive been saving,buying and learning so im really only getting started now and as of now I have Reason,Recycle,Audition,and a Mk-461c Keyboard...hopefully by the end of this month I'll have my monitors and sound card (Alesis 820 DSP Prolinear's and Audiophile 192)...after that It'll be a turntable,mixer(dj&analog)Cubase SX 3,MPC 1000,Sampletank 2 XL,ES Rack,MicroKORG,Kontakt 2,few other vsti's and plugins.THEN a preamp and good condencer mic...and other various pieces oh boy I got a long way to go,lol

Yo, Ive been producing since April 2004 and so far Ive spent around $750...That might not seem like a lot to some of you that spent like $5,000 on gear and shit, but to be 14, thats a hell of a lot of money! I had to chose between school clothes and production equipment...That was a tough decision, but I think I did a good job in choosing.
