I've been happy with nearly all the beats I've made but its only been this year (5 years in) that I have been happy with the standard they are at...Fact is you might learn what took me 5 years in 5 months and your standards may be a lot higher or lower than mine!
The most important thing is that you keep learning from every beat you make. Everytime I feel things getting stagnant, or too routined I change up my workflow...chop that sample in a different way to usual, or lose the sample altogether and compose something, use a sound you wouldn't normally use, or try some crazy mixing trick you read about e.t.c...do whatever you want!
Listening back I will admit that my approach has f*ct up some beats in the past but learning what doesnt work is just as important as learning what does IMO...
