When i can already hear a hook or someone on it i know its good. When my 3 yr old starts hummin to it and making up words its good. Its true what you said about the simple drum beats people seem to go crazy over the most simplistic beats. Most likely because they leave more room for the artist to flow on. Sometimes I make a beat and it sounds good to me but when i try to flow to it i cant quite ride the beat. Other times i make something and boom i got a whole concept for a song and of course then i dont want to give it up!

basically you just need to believe in your sound and stick with it. but at the same time you got to be willing to experiment. you only want to cater to people to a certain extent. you got to understand, nowadays, when cats listen to your tracks, they want to hear something that's already out there. do you fam. stick with your sound and you'll get some real cats that's feeling it. some cats that share your vision. having your own sound is the key to longevity. then you'll have a lot of followers. that's when you switch it up on them. (just had to toss in a few pennies...)

I know its good when i can just bump it (remix) and people nod to it not even knowing its mine.

Plus if you can just be honest with yourself you basically pick whats good and whats trash not well it sounds ok, it sounds iight.. Either it sounds good to you or it doesn't.

Most of the time if you can flow or Dance to it. Others can too.

when u get that srcunched up ugly face while the beats playin... ya know the one that looks like you ate something thats too sour ... yeah that one ... everyone knows what im talking about

Word...we call that the mugly face down here. Like on Fade To Black when Timbo put the "dirt off ya shoulders" beat on for jay-z. That's a mugly face.

once its finished it gives you a certain feeling.... but the way we do it out here in the bay is how it sounds in a car... all our music is made to be played loud in the car... so put the beat on a cd and listen in a car.. drive around with the windows down and if you have to...open your doors and see how the people on the block feel about the beat..

If I think I got one thats "the one", I cut it off........... go make some peach tea or hop on Madden for a minute. About 30-45 mins later I go back and press play. If its as hot as I thought it was the 1st time, I will get the same feeling if not better the 2nd time. Plus I REALLY know its how when I try to rain man some lyrics over it, cause I cant even rap!! LOL

I'll say that it's really hard to tell, for someone who just started, cuz, when you just started, everything sounds hot. I think that every producer goes through progression phases (I dont have a better word to describe it...) You get to a certain level after a couple of experimentations and you like... damn, I did that? And at that point in time, you'll think what you did is a banger... and then you learn new things and what you thought was a banger is just a regular beat...

I think that other people could be your best way to know if you got a hot track, but then again, if they dont like the style, they wont like the beat. For some people, the Laffy Taffy song is the shit... so, you know, tastes is something that's real personal...

its hot when u listen to it and either make a high pitched noise, or chuckle a little.
