hey, hiphop is not to blame. it's where the money is at. examples against: andre, guru, mosdef, common, masta ace, an others

cheap sex is the most generally compatible with the masses

i think hip-hop has too much influence... it's wrong to talk about women like the rappers do, but the fact is - they're not making shit up.. these days too many women degrade themselves, especially toward a rapper... I just have a problem w/ the dudes who do it just bcuz they see it in a video or hear it on a cd....one

Yo, men been degrading women since the beginning of time. Where you been? Women are just recently getting a piece of the pie as unfortunate as it may be.

There have been some strong women in history, but not a drop compared to the men. We usually take them for granted.

But believe it or not, music is an influencial part of society..."I'll take you to the candy shop, I'll LET you lick the lollipop..." yeah...ok, those are some corny lyrics. But it implies that it is a priviledge to lick HIS lollipop...

I always thought is was a priviledge gettin' the lollipop licked -_-

if a man is foolish enough to let the music he listens to effect the way he treats a womanthen that man is an ass. Let good common sense be the guide.

Women have been degraded since the stone age my friend.
Hip hop often can be an exaggeration of what actually goes on in real life
but videos like Tip Drill and too live crew's antics wouldn't exist if women
weren't lining to be in these videos.

As far as how black men view black women, black people have waaaay deeper issues than hip hop videos, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The black race is 7% of the American population and over 90% of the prison population
so there miiiiight be a bigger social issue which yes! hip hop plays a part in, but its not the major problem.

Art imitates life, but art can be used to propagate false distortions of the realities of life especially when mass media is the tool and money drives their intent......weak minded individuals let some video or picture painted in songs guide how they act and react in real life...that is the problem.

Thanks for the comments and please keep them coming. I am writing a paper about how the Black man have forgotten how to love Black women. I'll look at hip-hop's influence, family socialization of Black males, the new down-low shit, and even the rise of Black men fathering children with multiple women.
Let's be realistic, hip-hop does have a strong influence, along with other things. Maybe men have disrespected women for ages, but those were different kinds of societies. Our society has become more egalitarian. In the slave years, Black men actually signed themselves back into slavery to stay with wives and family members. Where has that love gone? Surely, women play a part, but what could they do when so many of us disrespect them? They must adapt or be alone. Unfortunately, many women choose to adapt. If we can change that they'll follow.

I think men DO degrade women, and it's a shame. But I think it is that way because women let them. If there was no women who would respond to such behavior, men wouldn't actually do such things. I'm not saying that men are not to blame, but they are not the only ones to blame there...

I meet women on a regular basis who act like they want to be ass whooped and threated like thrash. Some of my friends have blackbooks (remember Fresh Prince) full of phone numbers of girls who are willing to come, get a fuck and leave (I dont). I'm not saying it's their fault, but some women respond to that kind of behavior.

Now, I also think that guys like to show off their mating skills and, for that reason, they like to show off that they can pick up women. And I dont think hiphop has anything to do with it. It's only the vehicule used now... I mean, remember Dany Zuko? He was not into hiphop at all... The way he treated Sandy Olsson had nothing to do with hiphop, and still it's pretty much the same way people are treating women today.

(If you dont remember... Danny Zuko and Sandy Olseen are JOhn Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in Grease... lol)

I really dont think Hip Hop purposely attempts to degrad women or vice a versa, I think the real issue is Socity in its own HIp Hop just works a like a mega phone voicing what goes on in the world sure a lot os feable minded people fall victoms to the ibad influences of the genre, but the status of women in general has shifted and that not only within the urban community, thats jus America in general, feel me? Look at it this way nobody put a gun to SuperHead's face and said be a hoe she did it herself, some women allow the shyt to float and u know what happens when u let someone do something the keep doing it cuz it just dont seem wrong, No in the case of hip hop some times i think the music gotta calm down its derrogitory messages but when we allow our selfs to be called niggaz n bitches how we gonna complain, Kinda like the sporyt thieves song no pidgeons, it was offending to women but seriously they were talking bout a certain kind of chick not all of em, feel me, well thats how i c it

Me personally Hiphop doesnt affect the way think about any women
Exactly!!!!.....People use Hip hop, movies, video games, etc as a scapegoat for bad things in society...when imo its just bad parenting.....Me and some of my family members are living proof of that...

Indeed, family socialization is as or even more important than hip-hop's influence. However, hip-hop's influence will keep that problem alive, become the player or hustler mentality steals many fathers from many children. Though, single mother households can and have worked, would it not be better if more males were parents to their children? Hip-hop says, fuck that, "you can be my wife, but only for tonight."
