Wow!... that's really a beginner's question... all right.

Actually, for your 1st question, you have several ways of doing what you want... but I gotta ask, how long have you been using FL Studio? Do you know what the Playlist is? Do you know the difference between a pattern and a song? Answer those 3 questions first, cuz that will determine the lenght of the answer...

oooh, and do you know what a LOOP is.

how long is your sample? The way i do it is use the time stretch function in the channel settings and set it to the specific number of bars u want and from there u can mess wit the settings dealing with the pitch. Next to the time stretching nobs there are a few options i nthe drop down box such as resample, elastique (drums),elastique (tonal),elastique (slices), slice map, and auto depending on your sample u might need to change these. Also search the forum for cut groups these can also help u when chopping and cutting certain samples off when another one starts if a particular one of your beats calls for that
Hope this helped

i use to wonder about this years ago then figured it out. as i see opera has answered the question about how to morph the pitch and streching with time strech. however, there is a way to extend the length of the sample though without modifying its original quality. actually what you will be doing is for say the sample your using is a string of somesort...
what im about to tell you will play the string right untill it reaches the end of the sample then from what you have specified will pick back up somewhere in the middle of the sample to give you that constant string or ending of any instrument sampled.

ok, now what you want to do is load the sample into the step secquencer (SS beside PL i believe). so now that the sample is there to mess with you now would click on the sample to load its proporties. once the proporties are open click on the TAB that says MAIN (just below where the VOL and Pan knobs are). now you can also note this is where the time streching proporties are also located. so what you will do is click on the button that mentions LOOPING and once that button is highlighted in red you will now scroll to the bottom of the proporties screen. i believe at the very bottom there should be a series of 5 knobs. the one that is marked CRF, just ajust it to your specification and timing.

thats it , i wish i could be more specific however the computer im on doesn't have flstudio on it so i couldn't take a screen shot for you. anyways after messing around with that try out the time streching and other stuff in the proporties.

peace.

p.s. i forgot to mention that once you finish the looping prosedure the sample will now play as long as you want it to... i.e. go to the Piano Roll and extend the note of what you want that instrument to play on for as long as you want .

A loop is where you take a section of a song and it will play for a bar or few then it will start over again at the begining of the sample. I dont think you can or is it advisable to play an entire song and just add some extra piano or whatever to it.
If you REALLY want to do that I would get a tape recorder and plug everything into a mixer and play it like that.
But it sounds like you are brand new to this whole thing and have only FL to work with.
Like I said forget using that whole 3 minute song and just adding somthing to it.
You want to take a "Sample" of that song and and stuff to it OR take really small sounds from that song and "flip" them up and make your own song....
Thats not technical stuff but conceptually thats where you need to be going.
