Ok....I'm confused as hell right now and need a little help before I waste alooooot of my families money so heres the situation. I have been rapping for a while now but I got tired of dealing with the people I work with because they are lazy and neva get anything done. So I decided to build a recording studio(dont know if thats really what I meant to say) in one of the larger rooms of my house. Now to my suprise my family all got together and dicided to help me do this so I have a pretty good financial backing. All I really want to do is be able to record vocals and make quality beats because I take my music VERY seriously and am far past the "hobby" stage, we were going to remove the wall to the closet (big closet) and build a sound proof booth there, so all I need is like advice on what equipment I should be buying to make professional quality beats (not master them I got some engineers that'll do that for me for free) and any other equipment I might need for the mic in the both or connections to the computer or whatever.

ALL help is appreciated and greatly needed thanx.:D

Well, seeing that I just learned that ProTools 6.1 supports rewire, I would buy a Mac, ProTools with M-Box (and upgrade the ProTools to 6.1), a mic (sorry, can't help you on what brand, depends on what sound you're looking for), mic stand with pop-filter, Reason 2.5 (which you rewire to ProTools perhasp along with some VST instruments) and then some sample CD's, which you can swap for others and cheaply expand your sound library. Also, a midikeyboard and perhasp the MPD-16 midi pad control...just my opinion.
Other will probably tell you to get a mpc and triton or similar...also, depends on what you're seeking and how you like to work...

Hey Goldy_C,
It's really hard to say what you need. My first and wise advice is to sit down..and figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it.

First you'll need a computer. (very important )
question that you will need to answer: will this computer be used for midi? wave sample work station? (editing and creating music using samples) or both?

If yes then I would concentrate on building a good workhorse computer. Nowadays you don't need to spend$$$ to get a good one.
You can get a Dell Pent IV 2.4 gig 40gigs harddrive (you would probably want a secondary hard drive) 256 rams ( 512 recommended or more).
I would recommend the Digi02 Protools....
This my friend will be your recording studio...

other things that you might need and helpful..
will be a mackie 16 channels mixing board..If your smart you can pick up a used one for about 500 or less..
mics, maybe some outboard gears (keyboard, reverb unit...and such)

hope this help..

midi setup

here is my setup.

I have a pent III with 256 megs of ram. 60gigs of hard drive space. ($200.00)
A midi man sound card with 2 audio outs 2 aduio in, i digi out i did in, 1 midi out, 1 midi in ($139.00)
mackie 16channl 4 bus ($450.00)
Reason (lets say its gift)
SoundForge wave editing software (gift)
Soundforge Vegas (gift)
Protools 5.1 (free to download)

this is how I put my production to go:
Make some grooves or whole songs in Reason, whether its beats or a bassline or a lead...export it to a wave file.

Then edit the wave file in Soundforge to lcean it up or add filter or compress...it's up to you.
You can also record you midi euipment to Soundfroge so you can convert it to wave files. believe me you'd want to convert it.

once you have all your snipits..put it together in vegas...or logic/cubase/cakewalk which ever is your preferance.

then again Reason has capabiltes to use midi as well and can sync to your gears...like i said you dont have to spend$$$ to make real good music...just smart

First you need a MIC to spit

Then you need a PC

Then you need software for your PC (Reason, Fruity Loops etc.) for producing and software (cooledit, wavlab) for editing

a keyboard is also very useful

i dont think there is any need for any other equipment untill you master all this first.

this is just my opinion for a setup.....(its what i have in my home sudio)
it is not the ONLY way to go but i just relied cos i fugured you would like the most opinions as possible

peace

or Hardware such as an MPC 2000xl

and even if ur good u get no cash anyway so use that 8g to start a business or something

M-Box will be for recording, it's a soundcard/converter. You plug the mic to the M-Box, which is then plugged into your PC.

Yo,

naw naw naw al uneed is FL to make phatinem beetz lol holla...

Seriously, $8000?!?!?!? That's quite a lot of cash! Would you consider using part of that to doing up a room or two in your house, like putting in floating floors/walls (or whatever it is they do in big studios) or maybe soundproofing it so that your neighbors never hear you playing drums? I believe that hard and software deppreciate in value as soon as you buy them, but things like fixing up parts of your house could make it a lot more valuable in the long run...

Take care,

alot of people are giving you their opinion about wut you should do and they dont know what your plans are really...so you should take a couple minutes to tell us what you already know about music production and any specific questions you have about production (like what is midi, what is a condenser mic?) then we can really help you out ALOT. so holla back back.
